Don't Make a Side Deal on a Damage Claim
Sometimes a driver and customer may be tempted to handle minor damage between themselves.

Why We Don't Let the Driver “Just Fix It”
Imagine finding damage at delivery and hearing:
“I know somebody who can fix that. Let me take care of it.”
It might sound like the easiest solution.
But our carrier agreement doesn't allow the carrier to choose the repair facility or attempt to repair transport damage themselves.
Instead, we want the damage documented and handled through the claims process.

What If Transport Damage Makes My Car Undriveable?
Most transport damage is nowhere near this serious.
But it's still worth knowing what protections exist.
Our agreement with carriers addresses situations where transport damage leaves a customer's vehicle inoperable.
When the carrier is responsible, the agreement requires the carrier to cover applicable towing expenses and vehicle rental expenses while the vehicle is being repaired.
Hopefully that's a provision you'll never need.
But part of choosing carriers carefully is thinking through the difficult situations before they happen.

Why Repair Estimates Matter
If transport damage occurs, one of the questions eventually becomes:
What will it actually cost to repair?
Our carrier agreement calls for the customer to obtain two repair estimates from shops of their choice after delivery.
The lower-priced estimate is then used in the claim process.
There's another important protection built in:
The carrier doesn't get to choose your repair facility or simply attempt the repair themselves.
Claims should be handled through a clear process—not an uncomfortable negotiation in your driveway.

What Happens After You Report Damage?
You found possible new damage.
You documented it at delivery.
You contacted us within 24 hours.
What happens next?
Now we start gathering information.
The carrier is required under our agreement to respond to a damage claim and accept or deny responsibility in writing within three business days after we request their response.
From there, the claim is handled according to Mr. Car Shipper's claim procedures and, when applicable, the carrier's insurance process.
A claim isn't decided by whoever argues the loudest. Documentation matters!

Can the Driver Drive My Vehicle?
Yes—but only when it's necessary for the transport.
Your vehicle obviously needs to be driven onto and off the trailer, and occasionally transportation logistics can require additional operation.
But our carrier agreement specifically says the carrier cannot operate a customer's vehicle for purposes unrelated to the transport.
Handing someone your keys requires trust.

Why Your Vehicle Needs to Be Transport-Ready
Insurance shouldn't be your first line of defense.
Preparation should be.
Before your vehicle is loaded, check for loose exterior pieces, properly secure removable equipment and make sure anything that could come loose during highway travel is addressed.
Why?
Because our terms place responsibility on the customer when an improperly prepared vehicle causes damage to another vehicle on the trailer.
The best claim is the one we never have to file.

Tell the Driver About That Leak
Have a vehicle that leaks a little oil or another fluid?
Please tell the driver before it's loaded.
Remember, your vehicle probably isn't traveling alone.
There may be another customer's vehicle directly underneath it.
Our terms require customers to notify the driver of fluid leaks before loading. If your vehicle isn't properly prepared and causes damage to another vehicle, you could be responsible for that damage.
One quick conversation at pickup can protect everyone on the trailer.

It can feel like the driver is being overly particular when they walk around your vehicle noting every scratch, ding and blemish before loading.
