A new pilot on another group asked for advice this morning and after a long 15.5 hour drive from Flight Safety International in Denver to my home, and then sleeping a solid 8 hours, I woke up refreshed this morning and replied this to him:
From my life experiences, I can tell you this that I've either lived myself or have witnessed personally:
1- Don't confuse what you THINK you KNOW, with facts. In the future you'll realize how much you really didn't know. Be humble.
2- Don't burn bridges, but stand up for yourself and never let anyone pressure you to do anything you KNOW is wrong. Be firm but kind.
3- Remember that those toes you're stepping on now trying to climb the proverbial career ladder, might later be attached to the ass you'll have to kiss in the future if they become your boss. Be goal driven but be fair.
Damn, I woke up enlightened. I'll have to remember this for the next person who asks 🤪
