Here’s another thing our handymen can help with - keeping the creepy crawlies out!

Here are a few things you should be doing (or hiring us to do!):

1. Keep the heavy mulch away from your house - it’s just an invitation for termites and other insects when laid next to your house foundation.

2. Eliminate moisture (keep humidity levels low)

3. Seal entry points - all windows and doors

4. Declutter (spiders especially like to hide in clutter)

5. Keep your home clean - all kitchen scraps and food left out are just asking to attract bugs.

As our first big winter storm approaches, we thought we’d share some tips to stay warm - well, at least keep the house warm! Some of these you can still get done before the storm hits, and others you can call to get on our handyman’s schedule to be ready for the rest of winter. ⬇️

1. Cover your window and door drafts with weatherstripping. You want that warm air to stay in, and that cold air to stay out.

2. Invest in some solid curtains. Approximately 30% a home’s heating energy is lost through windows. Use the thermal-insulated curtains or drapes (and honestly, they don’t have to be very expensive).

3. Check your insulation. This may involve more time, energy, and money, but the results are worth it if you’re having to blast the heat all day and night.

4. Don’t be afraid to adjust your thermostat. For example, when you’re away or sleeping, turn your heat down. You can also invest in a “smart thermostat” that you can program to do this or even one that will sense when you come and go.

Our handyman can help hang new curtains, program a new thermostat, seal windows, check insulation, etc.

Thinking about hiring professional movers? Great! It should make your life a lot easier. Here are three things to ask yourself first (there’s actually a lot more to consider, but these are the three we focus on today):

1. Whether the company has a moving truck that is the right size to both fit all of your boxes and furniture and abide by any physical constraints of your property.
2. Whether the company can provide additional packing supplies as needed, such as moving blankets, bubble wrap, garment boxes, etc.
3. Whether the company is available in a time window that meets your needs and can guarantee pickup and delivery dates and times that are convenient for you.

We know we can handle the first two here at BinTris, but the only way to figure out the third one is to call/message and find out!

Expert level moving tip: Pack plates vertically, like records. They'll be less likely to break.

Don’t forget to use your clothing or dish towels in between them to save on bubble wrap! Also, use a proper size box so there’s not much wiggle room.

Using shelves in storage is a great way to maximize the efficiency of the space you have while keeping your stuff organized and easy to access. Make sure you determine what size of unit you will need by using a “storage size estimator” and then fully utilize the space you have by neatly stacking it with shelf-units.
