Dreaming of planning a once in a lifetime family vacation but you’re not up the task? When? Where? How long? What’s cool-What’s not? It’s a lot… That’s where I come in! Trips like these are reserved for getting lost on unfamiliar streets, local drinks and foods at cute cafes and exploring places you thought you’d never go. 4 years ago I took 5 family members to Italy for the trip of a lifetime - we took trains to watch the landscape pass by, laughed with each other and made stories we will tell for the rest of our lives. Açores…Archipelago…THE AZORES! Our 1st 3 days here have shown us the seas, volcanic shores, hydrangeas, grape vines, forests, winding roads, unique architecture, UNESCO World Heritage sights, local foods, dramatic landscapes, beautiful sunny moments and now nothing short of a hurricane! Our home host said with wide eyes “the creek next to the house doesn’t run like this except in the winter!” He later brings us his wifes fresh baked spice bread! The people here are so warm and friendly-we hadn’t even left the airport in São Miguel and a local bought us a much needed coffee of the Azores- a galão! A fun jump in the ocean with locals, feeling the winding curves with our rental car windows down, experiencing a quirky wine tasting of Pico wine, walking amongst the perfectly stacked lava rock walls of vineyards, embibing in Azorian Sangria, pushing my boundaries eating limpets, welcoming the spray of crashing waves, wondering if our little car will make it back UP the hill we descended to find the crashing waves, sitting on our deck sipping Sagres/Super Boc in the pitch dark star gazing, jumping rock to rock on a lava field along the shore, visiting markets with room for 5 people-but more food than you can imagine, watching farm trucks pass loaded with crates of just picked grapes… this planet is just amazing! We feel so fortunate to get out and EXPERIENCE it! Saúde!
