Shipping is expensive for the average Joe, but not for Amazon, E Bay and the other big shippers. USPS, UPS, FedEx and others cut huge discounts to the big guys to keep their trucks full and these are not available to the little guy. Shipping by definition is expensive. It is labor intensive; huge capital investment for vehicles; and real estate for warehousing. Oh and the cost of gas. Most shippers pass the cost of gas along with fuel surcharges; the Post Office can't without approval from Congress. To save on shipping always do your own packaging. Shipping early will allow you to use the Post Office which is the cheapest for medium and small parcels. When buying online make sure the vendor offers a prepaid shipping label for returns. It may have a fee but is less expensive than using a third party shipper.

Spring is around the corner. I'm ready for 'Winder' (we did not have Winter) to be over. Forwarded the mail to my snowbirds who will be back next month...lot of tax stuff. Still have the least expensive PO Box rentals in town! Elections are coming and I have some boxes available for campaign treasurers. Traveling nurses are always welcome. Home based businesses are my favorite; I get to call when the check arrives.

This time of year I start thinking about Porch Pirates (not the Halloween kind). A door bell cam is great but it will not get your items returned to your front porch. For $48.00 you can rent one of my PO boxes and have your gifts/packages sent here for the holiday season. With Amazon in town now, more packages are being left on the porch than before. Be safe, not sorry.

I had fun in August; brought back some good memories. I shipped a lot of packages to college students moving back to campus because the packages would not fit/too expensive on the plane. Busy but not so busy that I could not chat with these kids and their parents. I'm sure September will have more of the same and bring back more memories. Don't want to stand in line...come on down.

I'm thinking about my box holders. None has ever complained about porch pirates. I have the most competitive rates in town. I give good service. If a box holder lets me know they are expecting an important package (meds) or letter (driver's license) I will give them a call. I make most listen to my jokes.

Holidays are in the rear view mirror. What I saw this year. None of my box holders reported porch pirates. Ran into usual complaints of long wait times at the Post Office and other outlets that results in more regulars for Pack N Mail. My shipping rates are competitive and I should charge more for packing. I don't recycle shipping supplies, I reuse them.

Many folks talk about using recycled materials. I don't. I recycle used materials: boxes, peanuts, air cushions etc. and pass the savings on to my customers.

'If we pack and ship it, your package is guaranteed to arrive undamaged' is a slogan of a competitor. If this service is like their overnight 'guaranteed' services it means that if the package does not arrive on time one is 'guaranteed' a refund. That, of course, means that the delay was not caused by something out of their control like a blizzard or tornado. That means no refund. So if your package arrives damaged (or is lost) your are 'guaranteed' a refund and hopefully you also purchased enough additional insurance to cover the value of the item damaged or lost.

Just found out that the Centennial Post Office lobby is no longer open 24/7 cuz of homeless issues. Not only do we offer our PO Boxes at a fraction of the Post Office cost, but now our restricted business hours are not a detriment.
