A Little Unexpected Detour…

What was supposed to be a quick, beautiful morning detour before heading home turned into a pretty significant fall, a trip to urgent care, a transfer to the hospital, two CT scans, and an official concussion diagnosis.

Thankfully, the second CT showed no new or worsening abnormality, and I was cleared to come home.

I am incredibly grateful to the amazing team at York Hospital in Wells who took such good care of me and recognized that I needed further evaluation. And I am beyond thankful for my daughter Brittany and her wife Kim who were able to jump in the car, drove through the night, and brought Jakob and me safely home.

And let's not forget my co-pilot Jakob, who apparently decided that Grandma needed an emergency response team AND an impromptu Michael Jackson concert. That boy absolutely charmed every person in that Urgent Care and he was so incredibly brave and caring. When the ER told him he was the absolute best behaved child they’ve ever had in the ER this Gram was pretty proud and made sure his Mommy and Daddy knew what a trooper he was.

I am home now, and thankfully I'm okay—but I have a concussion and my doctors have made it very clear that I need to REST.

So Kat’s Pet Transport Service is going to be taking a few days off while I let this old noggin heal. 🧠😂

There will be no transports, no running around, no “I'll just do one quick thing,” and definitely no more hiking adventures for a little while.

For those of you who know me, you know sitting still is NOT exactly my superpower. But this time I'm listening.

My family has me safely home, I'm surrounded by people who love me, and I am going to take these next few days to do absolutely nothing except rest and recover.

Thank you to everyone who has checked on me, sent messages, prayed, worried, or simply thought of me. I feel every bit of that love. 💕

Now…excuse me while I go do the hardest job of all: Absolutely. Nothing.

🌿 **A Much-Needed Pause…** 🌿

From September 2nd through September 6th Kat’s Pet Transport Service will be taking a much needed staycation!

REST ❤️
FAMILY - ESPECIALLY FAMILY ❤️
FRIENDS ❤️
HUMAN CONNECTION ❤️
SELF CARE ❤️
SALON DAY ❤️
NAIL DAY ❤️
SLEEP SLEEP AND MORE SLEEP ❤️

I love what I do. I absolutely LOVE my four-legged passengers and the families who trust me with them. 🐶🐾 And I wouldn't trade this crazy adventure for anything, but I really need to just take a few days and regroup.

I will be answering messages once a day but I will not be accepting any transports during that time.

September 7th I'll be back behind the wheel-rested, recharged, and ready to put those tires back on the road.

Thank you to everyone who continues to support Kat’s Pet Transport Service, trusts me with your precious babies, and understands that sometimes even the busiest transporter needs a little time to simply be Kitty. ❤️ Please be patient with me while I take some MUCH needed time off.

**See you on the road September 7th!** 🐾💜

The Conversation I’ll Never Forget… ❤️🐾

This is a long post, but I hope you'll stick around and read it to the end. I'm coming here today to share a story that had my heart absolutely bursting at the seams.

If you've followed me for any length of time, you know Jakob—the cutest co-pilot ever!!!! ❤️ Jakob has been traveling with me since the very beginning of Kat’s Pet Transport Service. Very early on, he started calling them his “Adventures with Grandma,” and there is now a scrapbook in the works with that very title on it. When he was little, his Mom would drop him off in the morning before work and he'd ask: “Grandma, are we going on an adventure today?”

When he was younger, he went on ALL of them. Then school happened. Now he can only come along on weekends and summer breaks. And if there is a hotel with a pool involved? He's there for it!!!! 😂 But in all seriousness, Jakob LOVES the babies. All of them. Every shape and size. Puppies, kittens, big dogs, little dogs… even snakes. (Which Grandma will NEVER transport, by the way. I do NOT share his affinity for that particular creature! 😂) Jakob is a light in this world. He just exudes love. His smile brightens every room he walks into. (As an aside, my grandson Milo is exactly the same way. Just love and light personified.) ❤️

Anyway…
This week I had to go to Virginia to pick up a Collie and deliver her to Middleburgh, NY. Of course, I asked Jakob if he wanted to come. He jumped at the chance. We made our way to Virginia and stayed at the Appomattox Inn and Suites. (If you ever get the chance to stay there, I highly recommend it!)

The next day, we picked up Zoey and headed north. Somewhere along the way, Jakob turned around and looked at Zoey. Then he looked at me.
And he said: “Someday when I'm bigger, I'm going to take over your transports.” I said, “You are?”
And he said, “Yes. And I'm going to bring my niece with me, just like I came with you.” I said, “Oh Jakob, that's so sweet. You can rename it ‘Jakob's Pet Transport.’” He hesitated for a moment. He got this thoughtful little look on his face. And then he said: “No. I think I'm gonna keep it the same. I'm gonna keep it Kat’s Pet Transport and carry on your tradition for generations to come.”

Heart. Absolutely. Melted. 😭❤️

And yes…He has a niece on the way. Luna Rayne Margaret Moshier will be arriving in January, and apparently he's already planning adventures with her. 😂❤️ The thought of my grandson someday carrying forward something I built from the ground up…How could my heart NOT melt?

I don't think he realized what those words did to me. Because this business isn't just a business to me. It started four years ago with a phone call from Mike's sister, Tina, after she had a terrible experience with a pet transport that resulted in a very sick puppy. She told me she needed someone she could trust to transport her puppies. She asked if I was interested. I had absolutely no idea what it would become. But it became something I poured my heart into. It became a part of who I am.

🐾 Every mile I've driven.
🐾 Every pet I've carried—from puppies and
kittens to chinchillas and yes, even ducks!
🐾 Every anxious pet parent I've reassured.
🐾 Every late night.
🐾 Every early morning.
🐾 Every story I've been privileged enough to be a
small part of.
It's all woven into that name.
Kat’s.

And today, my grandson told me that someday he wants to carry it forward. Not change it. Not erase what Grandma built. Carry it forward. And then came the part that really got me. He talked about keeping it going for the next generation. His generation. The thought that something I started because of one sick puppy could someday become something my grandson carries forward…
I can't even put that feeling into words.

Because suddenly, I wasn't just thinking about a business. I was thinking about legacy. I was thinking about family. I was thinking about all the miles yet to be driven and all the pets yet to be delivered safely into loving arms. And I was thinking about that little baby girl who will arrive in January—his niece, Luna Rayne. How one day she might grow up hearing stories about the crazy Gigi who started a pet transport business and drove all over the country with animals in her car. And maybe, someday, she'll be part of those stories too. I don't know what the future holds. Jakob may change his mind someday. Life has a funny way of changing our plans. But today?

Today my grandson looked at something that means so much to me and told me he wanted to carry it forward. And he wanted to keep my name on it. That broke my heart wide open. ❤️

There are moments in life when you realize that the things you do today may reach much farther into the future than you ever imagined. Today was one of those moments for me.

I started Kat’s Pet Transport Service because I wanted to make a difference in the lives of animals and the people who love them. I never imagined that someday it might become part of my family's story. And I certainly never imagined that one day my grandson might be the one behind the wheel, carrying Grandma's dream down the road with his niece by his side.

Jakob…
If you ever do take that wheel someday, I hope you know what it will mean to me. And I hope you always remember why Grandma started it. Love the animals. Take care of the people. Do the right thing, even when nobody is watching. And never forget that behind every pet is someone who loves them with their whole heart.

Today, my heart is absolutely overflowing. Not because of a business. But because my grandson looked at something I built with love and saw something worth carrying forward. That, my sweet boy, is a gift I will treasure for the rest of my life. ❤️ And maybe someday, many years from now, there will be another little passenger riding along in that car…

And Grandma's name will still be on the door.
Kat’s Pet Transport Service.
What a beautiful thought. ❤️🐾
