Without truckers, store shelves would be empty; hospitals would not have medical supplies; gas stations would not have gas. It's not a stretch to say life as we know would cease to exist. It's time to thank those men and women who spend sometimes months on the road away from home at a time to supply us with our necessities.

North Dakota Motor Carriers Association (NDMCA) celebrates National Truck Driver Appreciation Week by saying thank you to the professional drivers who keep North Dakota moving. It is partnering with the North Dakota Highway Patrol (NDHP) and the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) to hand out free lunches to truck drivers.

Hand outs will take place on September 16 at the eastbound I-94 Apple Creek Rest area east of Bismarck and at the westbound Maple Valley Scale House west of Fargo.

Congratulations to North Dakota's representatives at the National Truck Driving Champions last week in Pittsburgh, Pa.

David Comings, the 2025 national grand champion, finished third in that competition and third in the four-axle class. He was placed first nationally in the written test.

Also finishing in the top 10 in their respective classes were John Janousek, seventh in three-axle; and Scott Meyers, 10th in sleeper berth.

The North Dakota Motor Carriers Association is pleased to announce that FMCSA Administrator Derek D. Barrs will provide a federal regulatory update at the 2026 NDMCA Annual Convention on Wednesday, September 2, at the Alerus Center in Grand Forks.

As the Administrator of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, Barrs leads the federal agency responsible for commercial motor vehicle safety and oversees the regulations that impact every motor carrier, commercial driver, and transportation company across the country. He brings more than three decades of experience in commercial vehicle enforcement, public safety, and transportation leadership, including serving as Chief of the Florida Highway Patrol before being appointed to lead FMCSA.

This timely session will provide attendees with updates on federal initiatives, regulatory priorities, and the issues shaping the future of the trucking industry. It will also offer a valuable opportunity to hear directly from the person leading FMCSA during a period of significant change for motor carriers nationwide.

We were proud to partner with Vision Zero at the Driving Skills for Success & Alive at 25 event to help educate young drivers about safely sharing the road with large trucks.

The conversations, questions, and hands-on experiences make a lasting impact, and we're grateful to everyone who stopped by the No Zone display. Helping the next generation of drivers understand truck blind spots and safe driving practices is an important step toward safer roads for everyone.
