Day 2 of registering our box truck. 🚚

Let me tell y’all right now… this is NOT—I repeat, NOT—like registering your personal vehicle.

You have to know:

* Which commercial plate you qualify for based on your truck’s gross weight.
* Whether you’re operating Intrastate or Interstate.
* Which tax forms apply depending on whether you purchased the truck or lease-to-own.

Now let’s get into these Illinois forms…

📄 RUT-25 = Lease-to-own transactions.

📄 RUT-50 = Purchased vehicles.

And here’s the one that almost got ya girl…

📄 RUT-7 = Rolling Stock Exemption Election.

If you’re operating interstate under your own authority or leased onto another interstate carrier, don’t overlook this form. It can make a huge difference in your tax liability.

Now, these are Illinois forms. If you’re in another state, the form numbers will probably be different, but the purpose is usually the same, so do your homework.

Another little gem…

If you’re leasing a truck that’s titled in another state, your leasing company will likely need to overnight the original title and lease agreement directly to the specific DMV/SOS facility handling your commercial registration. You can’t just walk in with copies and hope for the best.

And I ain’t even told y’all how the Illinois Department of Revenue tried to charge me over $4,500 in sales tax on this same truck because the RUT-7 wasn’t submitted with the rest of the paperwork.

Needless to say… we got that fixed. 😏

This whole process has been a learning experience, and I’m documenting everything because I know I’m not the only one trying to build a transportation company from the ground up.

Watching you become the man you are today, and having the privilege of being your mom and helping guide you through life, has been one of my greatest honors. Truth be told, you’ve probably taught me just as much—if not more—than I’ve ever taught you.

So what do you get your 24-year-old, grown, independent (to a degree 😂) son for his birthday?

An income-producing asset.

That’s right… Mama bought him a 26-foot box truck. 🚚

Not Jordans.
Not jewelry.
Not the latest gadget.

A commercial vehicle.

One that can generate income, build credit, create opportunities, and if he plays his cards right… become the foundation for his own fleet one day.

He’s already registered with 10 freight brokers, and now it’s time to learn the business from the inside out.

People always ask me why I’m so obsessed with business, credit, contracts, and transportation.

This is why.

I was never building an empire just for me.

I was building one my children could walk into.

Something they could inherit instead of having to figure it out from scratch.
