OUR STORY : PEACEFUL HENRY TOBACCONIST began 10 years ago here in Bluffton, South Carolina and has been at our current location, 181 Bluffton Road, Bluffton, SC 29910. Burt Sky, purchased Peaceful Henry in February of 2012 and invested in a number of changes and upgrades to the store including, expansion of the walk-in humidor with it's continually evolving and discriminating selection of cigars, pipes, and accessories. Peaceful Henry will ship anywhere in the USA and that allows us to pass on significant savings. This is because when shipping out-of-state, we do not have to charge South Carolina sales and tobacco tax. Our latest improvements include :
The Bluffton Cigar Bar has been open to the public since 2014. In 2020 we opened The Hidden Gem with some of the most delicious food in Bluffton. The Cigar Bar now offers a full bar with the finest liquor, draft and bottle beers, along with a great wine selection. Come in and experience the cushy leather lounge chairs while enjoying your favorite cigar, delicious food, and a beverage of your choice. You can chill while enjoying current sports events, or relax on our wrap around porch There's live rock or blues every Friday and Saturday night. An occasional Jazz concert features renown Jazz artists from all over the country. Plus our gang loves to have fun. Our experienced staff will help you select a great cigar and pair it to a beverage. For many experienced cigar smokers, retrohaling is an essential part of appreciating a premium cigar. Some believe that without it, you are experiencing only a fraction of what the cigar has to offer.

Why such passion for this tasting technique?

Retrohaling is the controlled movement of smoke from the mouth through the nasal passages and out through the nose. Unlike inhalation, the smoke is not intentionally drawn into the lungs. Instead, aromatic compounds reach the olfactory system through the retronasal pathway.

Much of what we experience as flavor comes from aroma, not taste alone. Retrohaling enhances the delivery of aromatic compounds to the olfactory system, revealing dimensions of the to***co's character that might otherwise go unnoticed.

For cigar and pipe smokers, this can be a revelation. Aromas become more distinct, subtle differences easier to recognize, and sensations such as spice and intensity take on greater definition.

To practice, take a normal draw and hold the smoke in your mouth. Gently exhale through your nose while allowing a small portion of smoke to move toward the back of the mouth and upward through the nasal passages. A slight, almost gulping motion can help. Start with very little smoke.

Despite the enthusiasm of its advocates, retrohaling is not a requirement for enjoying to***co or a measure of sophistication. It is another sensory tool, one you can explore according to your own preferences.

Take your time with it. Ease into it. Learn it.

The difference can be profound.
