It's at the Camden Art Shoppes on display, and I'll be taking it with us to our vendor tent at the Colonial Cup if it hasn't sold before then.

Guess what I was doing yesterday!

About two years ago I ordered some purple Angelus leather dye from Amazon. It arrived with the bottle leaking. I put it into a ziplock bag, and Amazon replaced it. Yesterday I found that Ziploc bag and although everything was dried out, I decided to see if it would reconstitute in the warm water dye bath.
What a mess! I should have worn gloves. The needles are still quite wet this morning, so they will dry to a much lighter, bluer color of purple. But I now have about a pound of beautifully dyed pine needles to use.

Pine needle basketry class today at Camden Art Shoppes was a success. Two folks came down from NC for the class.
Unfortunately, I forgot to take a picture of everybody's finished project, but we did get a few candid shots.
My next class is the first Saturday of November. I hope you can join us!

I have only about 2½ lbs of these SC longleaf needles, priced to move to some lucky person. I harvested these and dried them on my drying racks, but they have too many spots on them to sell as my regular quality.
There's nothing wrong with the overall quality of the needles, and they are about 14-18", though some will be a bit shorter. But the trees evidently have sort of needle blight causing the spots. The spots will be visible on your baskets, but will simply look like part of the texture. They will be less visible if you dye the needles with a dark color dye.

Pine needle basketry, anyone? I will be teaching a class this coming Saturday at the Camden Art Shoppes. It's a fun, interactive class, and most folks go home with a completed basket.

October has arrived and so brings the lovely color palette of natural tones and bright Halloween colors. Of course I use these colors year round but Autumn they feel a bit more at home.

One of my projects this week was reparing this basket lid. Someone had broken some of the pine cone petals. The new pinecone is smaller and hopefully, the extra resin I added will strengthen it better than the last one.
