NICE LESSON TO SHARE🚛👍

I was 64 miles from my delivery when I pulled into a truck stop and shut everything down.

Dispatch thought I was giving up too early.

My name is Alan. I'm 60, and I've been driving trucks for 34 years.

My day started at 3:45 that morning.

The plan looked easy on paper.

Pickup early.

Drive straight through.

Deliver before 10 p.m.

But trucking rarely follows the plan on paper.

The shipper kept me waiting for three hours.

Then construction turned the interstate into a parking lot.

By the time traffic cleared, the sun was already going down.

I still had 64 miles left.

So I kept driving.

About 20 minutes later, I caught myself drifting toward the rumble strip.

That sound woke me up immediately.

I corrected the truck and slowed down.

For a few seconds, I tried convincing myself I could finish.

Just 64 miles.

Maybe another hour.

Then I thought about how many accidents start with somebody saying, “I can make it.”

I took the next exit.

There was a truck stop less than three miles away.

I found a space near the back, set the brakes, and shut the engine off.

Dispatch called before I'd even closed the curtains.

“The customer is still waiting.”

I told them they'd be waiting until morning.

They reminded me I was barely an hour away.

I said, “I'm not risking everything to save an hour.”

They weren't happy.

I didn't care.

I slept for almost seven hours.

At 5 the next morning, I woke up, grabbed coffee, checked the truck, and got back on the interstate.

Those 64 miles felt completely different after some sleep.

I arrived late.

The receiver gave me a dock.

Twenty minutes later, they were unloading the trailer.

No argument.

No disaster.

The freight still got there.

After 34 years behind the wheel, I've learned that the last hour of a trip can sometimes be the most dangerous.

A professional driver isn't the person who always keeps going.

Sometimes it's the person who knows when enough is enough.

Happy birthday to me. To my team: THANKS FOR HAVE THIS TIME WITH ME. 🥰
