Great Schooner Race July 2nd-4th (6/6 berths available)
Hi friends, first things first the epic pic of us was taken by the talented (Thanks Nate) at last year’s Great Schooner Race. We had a rippen good time. So far we have no guests signed up for this year’s race! You could join us for 2 nights aboard, a fun day of sailing and learning the ropes on Tyrone, anchoring with the fleet in Rockland Harbor Thursday night, a highly competitive ;) crew small boat race (see our Maine maritime hat squid figurehead), the race against some of the prettiest schooners in Maine on Friday, then a bit of a celebration and even a little snoozing in between! It’s a great trip for anyone but If you’re a photographer looking to take photos of schooners this is a fantastic time to do it! First youth trip of 2026 is in the books. Thank you Saratoga Springs Waldorf for sending your 7th graders sailing with us for the week. We hiked on Calderwood and Birch Islands and got a lot of good sailing in. We saw awesome sunsets and weather rolling across the land, read Captains Courageous out loud in the evenings and made a bunch of good memories. Look forward to having you guys aboard again!

2025 Sail Training Review. As we cover and put the boat away for the winter it’s always fun to look back at the season we had. This year we ran 6 multi day trips and took a total of 33 young people sailing. We are incredibly grateful to all of the schools and non profit organizations that we work with who make it possible to provide these trips at no cost or little cost to kids and their families. For some groups and students this was their second year of programming aboard Tyrone and we are truly grateful to foster meaningful relationships with organizations and see the growth for those students coming back. Thank you , Station Maine, Rockland PD, , , and everyone else who worked hard and partnered with us to get kids out sailing on Tyrone this year. We truly couldn’t do it without you. We look forward to continuing to grow and offer our programming in the coming years!

Last month in July we had our 4th consecutive year of US Navy Sea Cadets aboard in partnership with Sailing Ships Maine. The 5 cadets and one adult chaperone aboard Tyrone for 6 days learned a ton including chart navigation, dead reckoning, bearing fixes, latitude and longitude, marlinspike skills, knots, whippings and splicing, how to sail and helm Tyrone, how to row the small boat with two people, some cold water survival skills and a bunch more. We had some really meaningful talks about leadership in our evening musters and got to put it to practice with our Junior Watch Officer of the Day rotation. We explored some really cool islands in Casco Bay, did a beach clean up at the Goslings and tacked around with all the neat schooners in Portland. Naps were taken on Otto and we sang an awful lot of Country Road. All in all it was a fantastic week and we really look forward to continuing to provide meaningful programing for the Sea Cadets in the future!

Thank you and Boothbay Harbor for having us this year at Windjammer Days! We had a fantastic group of young people aboard from . Four days of pretty fantastic sailing, taking science data in many locations around the harbor and having a lot of fun. So many cool vessels came this year and it was a pleasure to see them all on the water. Thank you to friends who snapped pictures of us out on the water. Also thank you to the East Side Waterfront Park for having us on your dock, the new space is excellent. Look forward to coming back!

Spotted! Windjammer Days Parade was wonderful this year. So fun to see the large crowd of schooners that showed up and we had a really great group of young people aboard from Boothbay Sea and Science Center.
