Last October 1st, in Chesterfield, we officially released three economic impact reports, completed by the UMass Amherst Donahue Institute, on the microtransit services of Helping Our Women on the Outer Cape, the Hilltown CDC, and the South County Connector in Southern Berkshire County. These 3 rural Massachusetts community-led microtransit services are not only lifelines for residents but have also generated a combined $24.6 million in economic benefits in the communities they serve.

Thank you to Representatives Tricia Farley-Bouvier and Lindsay Sabadosa for their constant support and partnership, and to our allies across the state who continue to stand with us in finding sustainable funding for this important public service.

Our Gathering in Worcester this year was LIT 💥 (If we may say so ourselves! 😁)

From the inspiring museum tour to Undersecretary Samantha Silverberg’s expansive and relevant keynote to the elucidating exchange of our amazing panel - Andrea Freeman, Etel Haxhiaj, Kat Eschel, Isabel Lopez, Joshua Rickman, Monica Elias-Orellana, Noah Berger and Sandra Sheehan - to the incredible performance of our West African djembefola, Sidy Maiga, to the uplifting closing remarks of Viviana Abreu-Hernandez to being in community with each other, we had a fun and illuminating experience.

Coalition-building does not happen in a day but taking time to be in community - for even just a day - reminds us that we are stronger together. Working together for “A State Connected, Transportation That Leaves No Community Behind.”

🎉 Today we release three economic impact reports, prepared by the UMass Donahue Institute, which find that the rural Massachusetts microtransit services studied generated a combined $24.6 million in economic benefits.

The findings include:

📊 The South County Connector generated an estimated $16.5 million in economic impact during 2024 and 2025, or approximately $12 for every dollar invested. The service provided 21,924 one-way trips in 2025, including more than 6,000 work trips.

📊 Hilltown CDC’s transportation services generated nearly $4 million in economic impact between 2022 and 2025, or approximately $23 for every dollar invested. The programs provided nearly 14,000 trips during the four-year period.

📊 Helping Our Women generated approximately $4.2 million in economic impact between 2022 and 2025, or $8 for every dollar invested. It provided more than 3,600 trips during that period, with 82 percent of its 2025 trips connecting residents to health care.

These services are immensely important to the riders they serve, and now these reports show the economic impacts the services provide to their communities.

🚨 🚧 Blue Hill Ave is currently not safe. It is at the top 3% of crashes in the City, making it one of the most dangerous stretches of roadway in Boston. Every 3 days, a crash occurs on BHA requiring EMS intervention. We need to prioritize safety, accessibility, and transportation equity.
