This week on we are featuring 2764 the Secret Valley Explorer. This is our very popular open air car featured in most of our train rides!

Class: FM (Standard Flatcar)�
Wheel Arrangement: 4 Axle
Length: 41 feet

🔔Pennsylvania Native
2764, the Secret Valley Explorer, was built right here in PA at American Car and Foundry’s (ACF) Berwick plant. It is part of the 2700 series of 40 foot flat cars (inside length used for classification). The ACF made the first of the all-steel subway cars for New York and later Nuclear Reactors.

🐮Hold the Milk
2764 served on the the Rutland Railroad which was was deeply intertwined with the dairy industry in Vermont, though 2764 more than likely never saw dairy service as a flat car. It more than likely hauled huge stone blocks from various quarries, or logs & timber to local saw mills.

👯‍♀️Steamtown Sister
2764 has a sister car at Steamtown National Historic Site in Scranton, Pennsylvania. Rutland Flat car 2777 is preserved at the museum and was restored in 1999. It was built in the same year at the same plant as 2764 and likely saw service in the same consists hauling goods for the Rutland RR.

🏔️Life in the Mountains
The flat car was used by the Upper Hudson River Railroad, a heritage operation in the Adirondack Mountains of Warren County, New York. It saw excursion service from 1999 till 2010 when the UHRR lost its operating contract. The Saratoga Corinth & Hudson Railway took over after.

🐶She’s a Rescue
Following the closure of the Upper Hudson River Railroad the Colebrookdale Railroad purchased 2764. On Tuesday May 6, 2014 it arrived at our Boyertown via truck. The flat car was saved and would see itself traveling along a new water way, just at a much lower elevation.

🌸From Freight to Favorite
2764 was just an average freight car who should have been scrapped decades ago, but on her 117 year journey, the international historical preservation movement saved this dusty old freight car, and now it lives out a simple life along the creek bringing smiles to the faces of her riders.

Join us for a Special Event Wine Tasting this September 26th. 🍷 Board one of our meticulously restored century-old rail cars for a 90-minute expedition into one of the most scenic and historic regions in the northeast while basking in the glorious foliage the Secret Valley offers.
