I just wanted to give a little update so far this spring. We’ve got a few new arrivals! Brownie had our first set of twins this season, Salt 🧂 & Pepper! Coco was also born just a couple weeks ago. We are just waiting on one more Mama to lamb and then the sheep will be all wrapped up for this lambing season!

Secondly, we welcomed these two awesome PCRBA registered Pineywoods from Barrington Plantation State Historic Site! These girls are doing great settling in and we are stoked to start raising Grass-Fed Heritage beef!

The bees are working extra hard right now to pack on honey that we’ll harvest in June. 🍯 Hopefully by then we will be able to catch yall at the markets with some of our Treatment Free Honey!

Have a good rest of the week!

I know it’s been a while but I just wanted to come on here to give a little farm update. A couple days ago we welcomed our first pair of heifers out here! They’re still young and have a while before breeding but it’s still very exciting! (More coming soon 🤞🏼)

Secondly, if you did notice, I have no birds available this fall. I DO intend on doing a couple large batches coming this spring through! I will post when the chicks arrive and I’d expect to have chicken products available by May of 2025!

We are also having a really good over winter rate so far after a strong fall flow. Colonies should be ready to hit the gates swinging after this cold snap 🥶. Hopefully we get a good honey harvest like last year!!

Lastly, all the ewes are bred and lambing season starts March 1st! I am retaining any and all ewe lambs and will post more info regarding our grass-fed lamb as they arrive out here on the farm.

Thanks for sticking around!

Babies to Queens! This is how we are able to allow a single colony to produce plenty of queen cells for us to use in splits. This is the most efficient way to grow your hive numbers. In the beginning, we take 3-4 day old larvae from our ideal mother colony. Using a grafting tool we’re able to transfer them into a queen cell cup. These cups will go into a queenless hive that will feed and take care of these baby queens for 14 days. On the 15th day we make splits and pop 2 queen cells into each one for good measure. These new mamas will then hatch and battle for the role of the queen within the hive. After hardening, they will go on mating flights to mate with up to 50 drones!! Given nothing eats her and she can make it home safely, this will be the first and last time she ever leaves her home and will begin laying her first generation of workers as seen in the last picture.

First removal call of 2024!! This swarm had moved into this piece on their front porch. Only a couple pieces of comb were drawn which we ended up using to start their beginnings in a Top Bar Hive. (Update coming soon!) Queen was caught and made things super easy for us. Looking forward for more to come.

Happy St. Patrick’s day! This morning Snickerdoodle had a perfect pair of ewe lambs at around 9 o’clock. They are up, cleaned, and full of colostrum already. We have gone with Saint (Brown one) & Patty (White one) for their names. Saint was born first so first come first serve! Have a wonderful day! 🍀

We have 🐝 & 🐔 but sheep 🐑 are the newest addition here, along with the newest arrival last night being a single ewe out of this mama! We are so excited to start rotationally grazed, grass fed/finished lamb in the upcoming year. The goal is to be as hands off as we can and be as treatment free similar to how we manage our hives.
