Aspens are turning gold, the summer crowds are gone, and ski season hasn't started yet. This is the quiet stretch locals wait all year for. Spend the day chasing color on a scenic drive, then come back for golden hour on the deck.

The waterfall you can walk behind.

Silver Falls' Trail of Ten Falls lets you walk into a rock alcove with a curtain of water dropping right in front of you. In October the crowds thin out and the maples start going gold at the edges. This is the version of the trail most people never see.

Wekiwa Springs doesn't know what season it is and honestly, that's the whole point. While everyone else is pulling out sweaters, you're floating down a spring run under a canopy that hasn't started to think about turning yet.

Watkins Glen has 19 waterfalls packed into a mile and a half of gorge trail, plus a w**e trail, a lake that runs 600 feet deep, and a main street built for slow mornings. This is the other New York.
