Recently, we have received multiple requests from a roadside assistance company for towing services. Upon arrival, we noticed that customers often complain about the rates. A discussion with customers revealed that when searching for "tow truck near me" on Google, they are directed to a paid advertisement before finding local tow companies. Consequently, customers are hiring this company at inflated rates (2-3 times what it should be) and then attempting to pay the actual tow company minimal fees.

Please share this information to inform others about the potential risks of clicking on generic ads when searching for local businesses online.

As we approach the winter season, drivers aren’t the only ones in greater danger on the roads. Make sure everyone in your vehicle is buckled up and children are in the correct car seats. And slow down as you approach intersections and crosswalks to be alert for pedestrians. Get more winter driving safety tips at Michigan.gov/WinterDriving.
