Bristol Boat Company

Bristol Boat Company Building and Restoring Significant Small Craft Our business is the preservation of fine small craft. May I say our greatest asset is the fine people we work for.

Competent restorations are completed to historically correct details by first class tradesmen. New construction projects may exactly replicate traditional designs or be completed to custom specifications. Our materials and processes are not limited or constrained in any way. In a day we can steam bend oak and vacuum bag composites with alacrity. We owe them and deliver a job well done and a nice e

xperience in the shop and on the water. Please come and spend some time with us. We welcome visitors.

The house / coaming required laminating. No stock to spare, so we had to slice @ 7/16" to finish at a light 3/8".

Please attend Our 22 Burnside Apprentice Shop and participate in our “Symposium” this next Saturday, March 30th, from 10:00 until 4:00.

Get to know some of our 12’s;
ALICE - 1928
PEEPER - 1938
PORPOISE - 1914
THIMBLE - 1932

We will be exhibiting our restored Herreshoff 12 1/2’s and what goes into the building, restoration and maintenance of these “perfect boats”. Our apprentices, teamed with artisan mentors, will be demonstrating the tools, trade skills, building processes and materials that built these enduring icons of the Herreshoff legacy. We will be lofting, making structural parts, demonstrating restoration practices and maintenance processes thruout this special day.

Please bring your inquisitive nature about all things nice boats, apprentices and mentoring.

Please find for your interest our photo journal of building two Westport Skiffs. These skiffs were built as part a State of Rhode Island - Governor's Workforce Board program to offer pre-employment / trade skills experiential learning for 14 to 16 year olds. This far sighted and very important program is administered by the Rhode Island Marine Trades Association. The program on Burnside Street was hosted by the Herreshoff Marine Museum as part of their educational programs.

We have been tasked to reconstruct a mostly original Herreshoff built FISH CLASS boat from the deck down. While we will be retaining and repairing as much of the original parts as possible, there will be mostly a new bottom when done.

We call this stage "OFF STANDS". We define projects in stages. This enables a quantifiable sequence and order that is embedded in the Work Order Agreement and that makes for orderly shop floor production.
