How was your Winter? Had enough snow?

As the days starting to get longer and the boating season approaches, our team is gearing up to make sure your boat is ready to make the plunge. Engines are being serviced, work lists are being worked on, bottoms are getting new paint and compound, polish and wax are making for some of the best looking boats hitting the waters this summer.

As you can imagine, we are starting to put together a Spring Launch schedule. We have started reaching out looking for launch dates, but feel free to reach out to the office and provide us with your hopeful launch date.

Looks like some uncertain weather coming to New England, secure your boat by hauling it out of the water if possible or secure it the best you can.

If your boat is staying in the water, here are some things to consider:

Move to a more sheltered marina or bay if time allows.

Secure lines with extra length for tidal surge and consider doubling them up and cover lines to prevent chafing.

Remove or tightly secure any canvas, Biminis, or sails to reduce windage.

Stow all loose gear from the deck and cockpit.

Check bilge pump and confirm batteries are charged.

Ok, the boat show is over, now what do I do. Still some nice days coming so enjoy your boat. Keep in mind, if your not storing your boat with a storage company, we strongly suggested you winterize your engines, clean bottom and topside, and store your equipment as recommended. Maintenance and Prevention today, will make your spring a smoother one when you open your boat.

A question that is asked, Do I need to Winterize my boat?

Consider it part of "Annual Maintenance": Changing to Engine Oil and Oil Filter, checking and changing the lubricant in the gear case. Changing Fuel filters or spark plugs, Testing and maintain the batteries and any other maintenance that may be required.

Fuel Care: Winterizing the fuel tank will help ensure that the engine will start and run smoothly when your ready to open in the spring.

Don't trust the "It never freezes here mindset". The year you don't winterize, is of course the year we have an unexpected cold snap. Better safe than sorry.

Dilemma: "What if there is a nice day in February and it would be fun to go for a boat ride. Remember, you should winterize your engine again.

Docks are being installed, Tents are being erected, boats are being buffed and waxed. Weather looking to be in the 70s so it's looking to be a good one at the Newport Boat Show in two days. Come enjoy the fun.
