SCHEDULED DEL NORTE 199/197 CLOSURES PUSHED TO 2027: Full closures on U.S. 199 and Route 197 northeast of Crescent City have been pushed back again, this time to January of next year.

The initial work took longer than expected due to difficult drilling conditions, limited equipment availability, as well as safety and environmental considerations.

Once full closures begin, they are expected Tuesdays through Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. most weeks. Weekday one-way traffic control related to the project has been ongoing. Follow us here and check the weekly report at tinyurl.com/d1roads for updates.

As of May 1, 2026, Brookings Dial-a-Ride will be running Monday through Friday from 8 am to 5 pm. Last scheduled ride at 4:30 pm. Gold Beach Dial-a-Ride will run Monday,Wednesday and Friday from 9 am to 4 pm. Last scheduled ride at 3:30. Dispatch hours are 8 am to 4 pm. Please call the office for an appointment. Coastal Express will continue to run Monday through Friday on a regular schedule. Saturday services are temporarily discontinued.

As of Monday, November 3rd, Curry Public Transit’s Coastal Express will be meeting and exchanging passengers with Redwood Transit in Smith River at the UIHS Clinic at 501 No Indian Road, using the parking lot opposite the clinic on the west side of Highway 101, from Monday through Friday. Meeting times will be 6:30 am, 9:15 am and 2:15 pm, meeting Redwood Transit, and 6:30 pm coming north to Brookings. We will no longer be going to LaJoya Market. For further information, call Curry Public Transit at 541-412-8806, Monday through Friday, from 8:30 am to 3 pm.

U.S. 101 will be closed to all traffic at Bearhead Mountain Lane starting at 9 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 19. The highway is expected to reopen late Sunday night, Sept. 21. There are no local road connections around the work zone, nor any public facilities for bicycles or pedestrians. On this weekend, the only maintained public detour available for those traveling between Crescent City and Coos Bay is through Grants Pass and Winston using U.S. 199 (Redwood Highway), Interstate 5 and Oregon 42 (Coos Bay-Roseburg Highway). Curry Public Transit's Coastal Express will not be impacted unless this repair work extends into the week.

Curry Public Transit is facing an operational funding shortage due to federal delays in funding approved grants. This will result in service reductions. Proposed cuts are: all Saturday service and reductions in operating hours and days of service for Dial-a-Ride in Brookings and Gold Beach. There will be public hearing and joint Transit Advisory Committee and Commissioners meeting at the Curry County Annex in Gold Beach at 6 pm Wednesday September 3rd to discuss and vote on these cuts.
