🏊♂️ A 28.5-Mile Swim Around Manhattan! 🗽
We’re incredibly proud to celebrate an amazing accomplishment by our CFO, Kevin Pollman, who recently completed the 20 Bridges Swim, a 28.5-mile open-water swim around the entirety of Manhattan.
Starting at The Battery, the course travels counterclockwise through the East River, Harlem River, and Hudson River, passing beneath all 20 bridges that connect Manhattan to the surrounding boroughs and New Jersey. The swim is also part of the prestigious Triple Crown of Open Water Swimming, alongside the English Channel and Catalina Channel.
The challenge is no small feat. Swimmers aren't allowed any swimming aids beyond a traditional swimsuit, cap, and goggles—wetsuits are strictly prohibited. Even when stopping for food and hydration, swimmers must tread water.
On July 16, the swim took place under challenging conditions, with smoke from Canadian wildfires limiting visibility to roughly two miles. Despite the conditions, the views from the water remained striking, and each section of the course offered a completely different experience.
According to Kevin, the East River was the coldest, the Harlem River was the murkiest, and the Hudson River was the bumpiest.
Most swimmers complete the course in 8–9 hours. Kevin had an incredible day, finishing in just under 7.5 hours! 👏
It was a long day—but clearly, an unforgettable one. Congratulations on an incredible accomplishment! 🎉
