The Fort Greene Open Streets Coalition will be gathering with partners and neighbors before the meeting, at 6 pm, at the corner of Willoughby and Adelphi for a rally supporting the Open Street. After the rally, many of us will go to the meeting. During which, we expect a presentation from DOT as well as an opportunity for community members to provide comments about Willoughby or ask questions. We welcome you to stop by for the rally, the meeting or both.

There has been a lot of positive energy around the Open Street, including tributes like this video
homage to the street made by a neighbor. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I833WrCiymI

Here are three things you can do!

Take this survey and make your positive position for Open Streets clear.

Show up at the Crystal Hudson / DOT Forum this Tuesday at PS 20. The meeting starts at 6:30pm, but we will have a rally right before at 6pm (see flyer). You don’t have to speak. Just having you there will be a huge benefit.

Tell friends to take the survey and join you at the Forum.
Counclmember Hudson is hosting a community conversation with Ydanis Rodriguez, the Commissioner of the Department of Transportation, about Willoughby Open Streets on Tuesday, March 8. Our excitement for ; walking through neighborhoods of Brooklyn and NYC, is tempered by the fact that Halloween is the deadliest day of the year for child pedestrians.
We want you to get to your destination safely, and our city does nothing to protect kids and their people.
We hope you can use the various that are near you to get to where you are headed. Give a big thanks to all the volunteers that help keep Open Streets running, and Have a Happy Halloween!

There are some exciting movements on the Safe Streets front in Clinton Hill/Ft. Greene and Prospect Heights. Please let us know if you are interested in getting more involved, as we can connect you to interested groups.

"We need a holistic re-thinking of our streetscape to stop this carnage," Eric Adams said at an event on Monday.

In recent weeks and months, Brooklyn children and babies have been killed on our sidewalks and crosswalks from reckless negligent drivers; and it feels less and less safe to walk your kids to school, the park, or even to cross the street. 2021 has been the deadliest year on record for pedestrians since 2013. The graph (from July 2021) shows we have already exceeded the number of pedestrian deaths of any year since 2013.

We are pedestrians, we are cyclists, we are bus riders; we are the vulnerable road users that are most impacted when drivers are reckless on our neighborhood streets. CROSSING THE STREETS SHOULD NOT BE A DEATH SENTENCE.

Our local electeds (and presumed new electeds) understand that there is an ongoing and continuously worsening problem, but we need to make sure that our local electeds and NYPD understand the urgency.

I am interested in promoting conversations on actions that we vulnerable road users can take to push these issues to the top.
Like this page, reach out to your friends, and follow us, as we will continue to post on upcoming actions.

Congestion pricing is coming to NYC in 2021 and will reduce the amount of daily car traffic on our streets, especially Flatbush Avenue on its way to the Manhattan Bridge. TA Brooklyn activists would like to reimagine what the Flatbush Corridor would look like with protected bike lanes, improved pedestrian crossings, and other safety enhancements.

Join Council Member Stephen Levin and Transportation Alternatives' Brooklyn Activist Committee for a community visioning session of a complete street redesign of the Flatbush Corridor in Downtown Brooklyn. Come with your ideas to make the Flatbush Corridor safer and easier to navigate for everyone!

This weekend, we have an opportunity to get the candidates talking about traffic violence -- an issue they have largely ignored. But we need your help.

Traffic violence kills 100 Americans on our streets every single day -- an epidemic on par with guns and opioids -- but the people vying for the nation’s highest office aren’t even talking about it. Let’s make sure it’s on their minds when they take the stage this Sunday at the Moving America Forward forum in Las Vegas.

Here’s how you can help:

Watch this video http://go.pardot.com/e/495251/kFVriCCq954/gs9gjy/502588896?h=CuzEKxKI8WmBHc4T3LgRo2UzU8v-dDmgcPPkw6vcMNk

and share it on social media with (and tag the candidates)

Sign this petition
https://endtrafficviolence.org

and get 10 friends to sign before the candidate forum on transportation this Sunday
We are building momentum: one candidate sent a Tweet in support of our efforts and two others have begun to talk about the issue. Now we need them to come up with real, solid plans for ending this preventable public health epidemic.

Thank you,

Amy Cohen

In 2019, total of 219 people, including 122 pedestrians and 29 cyclists, died on New York City streets.

These are not accidents, but predictable and preventable results of policies that prioritize moving traffic ahead of protecting people.

2020 has already seen tragedies including a 10 year old and a 64 year old pedestrian killed Tuesday, in separate incidents. Both pedestrians killed were in the crosswalk.

Join us on Saturday January 11, at noon at City Hall.
