📦 Safety Tip Friday: Logistics Broker Safety

Welcome back to another Safety Tip Friday post! Throughout June, we're highlighting important safety practices across the logistics industry. This week, we're focusing on logistics broker safety and the steps brokers can take to help protect freight, carriers, and customers.

✅ Know Your Carrier: Verify MC/DOT authority and confirm carrier identity before tendering freight.
✅ Check Safety Records: Review compliance history, safety performance, and potential red flags.
✅ Verify Insurance: Confirm coverage directly with the insurance provider to ensure policies are active and adequate.
✅ Use Clear Contracts: Maintain written agreements that prohibit double brokering and outline expectations.
✅ Track Every Load: Leverage GPS tracking and shipment visibility tools to monitor freight in transit.
✅ Protect the Freight: Promote secure facilities, cargo seals, and theft prevention best practices.

Strong broker practices help create a safer, more secure supply chain for everyone involved!

📦 Safety Tip Friday: Shipper Safety

Welcome back to our Safety Tip Friday series! Throughout June, we're highlighting important safety practices across the logistics industry. This week, we're focusing on shipper safety and the steps that help protect freight, drivers, and supply chain partners before a shipment ever leaves the dock.

▪️ Secure freight properly: Use quality pallets, stretch wrap, straps, and blocking and bracing to prevent freight from shifting during transit.

▪️ Verify weights and dimensions: Accurate shipment information helps carriers plan safe loading, routing, and equipment selection.

▪️ Label shipments clearly: Ensure all labels, handling instructions, and hazardous material markings are visible, accurate, and easy to identify.

▪️ Inspect pallets and packaging: Damaged pallets, weak boxes, or unstable packaging can create serious safety risks during loading and transit.

▪️ Maintain a safe loading area: Keep docks clean, well-lit, and free of obstacles so loading crews and drivers can move safely.

▪️ Communicate special requirements: Temperature-sensitive, oversized, fragile, or hazardous shipments should be communicated before pickup to ensure proper handling throughout transit.

Safe shipments start long before the wheels begin turning. What shipper safety practice do you think makes the biggest impact on preventing freight damage and transportation incidents? 📦

🚚 Safety Tip Friday: Driver Safety

Welcome to our new series! Every Friday throughout June, we'll be highlighting important safety tips for different areas of the logistics industry. This week, we're focusing on driver safety and the simple habits that help keep drivers, freight, and everyone on the road safe.

Pre-Trip – Before You Head Out
▪️ Trip plan with care: Check the weather, road conditions, construction zones, and driving regulations before you begin your route.
▪️ Get comfortable: Adjust your seat, mirrors, and controls to your liking, and plan for breaks along the way.

On the road – While You Drive
▪️ Take it slow: Change lanes carefully, watch for work zones and school zones, and maintain a safe following distance.
▪️ Stay alert + focused: Scan your surroundings, avoid distractions, and remain predictable to other drivers.

Destination – Once You Arrive
▪️ Use caution: Get out and inspect the location, assess any potential hazards, and carefully use your landing gear.
▪️ Unload freight wisely: Check for freight that may have shifted during transit and use both hands when opening trailer doors.

Safe driving starts before the truck moves and continues until the job is done. What safety habit do you never skip before hitting the road? 🚛
