Faulty or missing thermostats will eventually cause power head damage. It is very bad for a 2 cycle outboard and practically any engine you can think of. It is impossible to adjust the carburetors if the engine won't warm up. Poor idle quality, stalling and hard starting are just a few of the symptoms you will see. Thermostats have a service life. None of them will last forever including today's popular 4 stroke engines...yes, they have them too
