3k followers is a big deal to me.. Taking a random idea from nothing but grind, sweat, and tears and turning it into something 3000 opinionated souls can believe in and stand behind is no easy tasks!

Going viral or being apart of a trend isn't authentic growth, I can assure you Cruise The Creek Adventures roots run deep.

​A final thought on the recent e-bike ban by Austintown Local Schools:

​Over the last few hours, I’ve received a few messages asking: As an advocate for classed e-bikes, why do I support a ban on students riding them to school, while still supporting traditional bicycles?

​My answer is simple: I am a parent first. Even with my professional experience in the e-bike industry, my daughter didn't get her first classed e-bike until she was 14. I firmly believe that is the appropriate minimum age for the responsibility these vehicles require.

​Don't get me wrong—electric bikes and scooters are incredible. They are getting kids off screens and outside, and they are helping people rediscover a love for cycling, allowing them to do things they never thought possible.

​But with that massive surge in popularity comes a proportional increase in accidents. When the news covers "surging ER visits," it is largely a matter of pure mathematics: more riders inevitably mean more incidents.

​Here is the core issue, and why traditional bicycles should be exempt from the Austintown school ban: Under Ohio law, traditional bikes are permitted on sidewalks; classed e-bikes are not.
​Because of this legal distinction, young e-bike riders are forced onto the road. Right now, our local road infrastructure simply fails to provide a safe space for the average child to navigate alongside car traffic. This is not a failure on the part of Austintown Schools trying to keep kids safe. It is a failure of our car-centric road design to keep up with modern transportation.
​A quick safety guide for parents:

​Class 1 & 2 E-Bikes: Cannot provide motor assistance past 20 mph and must have operable pedals. Safety tip: If your child cannot touch the balls of their feet to the ground while seated, the bike is likely too large for them to ride safely.

​Class 3 E-Bikes: Can reach speeds of 28 mph while pedaling. Ohio law requires riders to be at least 16 years old.

​E-Motos: Anything exceeding 28 mph (or lacking pedals) is legally considered a moped or motorcycle. These require a license, insurance, and registration.

I'm not going to speak on electric scooters, but there are specific reasons we don't have them on our sales floor. Which would make this post even longer LOL

Dear Austintown Schools
This deserves a real conversation.

​When it comes to e-bikes and electric scooters, clear guidelines make total sense. For liability and safety reasons, our own rental policy doesn't allow kids under 14 to operate a Class 1 or 2 e-bike , and riders under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. That’s responsible safety management, and state law already supports it.

And we would be complete hypocrites to support anything other to put your children in harms way.

​Banning traditional, pedal-powered bicycles, however, is a massive step backward.
​Since when are kids not allowed to pedal themselves to school?

​Transportation Equity: Not every family is set up with flexible work schedules to wait in long morning drop-off lines, and bus routes don’t always cover every situation. Riding a standard bike is a reliable, healthy, and cost-effective lifeline for students to get to class on time.

​Traffic Congestion: The notice cites heavy campus vehicle and bus traffic as the reason for the ban. Banning alternative transit doesn't fix traffic—it forces more parents into cars, actively adding more congestion to the exact drop-off lines they are struggling to manage.

​Student Independence: For generations, pedaling a bike to school has been a fundamental milestone of growing up, building independence, and getting daily physical activity.

​Safety during peak arrival and dismissal times is critical, but the solution isn't stripping away a healthy transportation option for students. The real solution is designating safe bike lanes, establishing clear pedestrian corridors away from the vehicle loop, and properly managing campus traffic flow.

​Let's find ways to make getting to school safer and more accessible for every student—not eliminate their options.
