Do you prefer to train in a low wing Piper or a high wing Cessna? It all comes down to personal preference as there are certain characteristics of each type of training plane.
There is something to be said about climbing into a plane from over the wing. After learning to fly in both types and instructing for thousands of hours, I would say the low wing has favorable flying traits.
Takeoff and landing in a low wing aircraft has considerably more noticeable ground effect, due to the placement of the wing in relation to the ground. When a plane is a wingspan in height or less about the ground, we experience less induced drag and therefore the aircraft feels like it wants to float just above the runway.
