Dear Friends and Neighbors:

Mad Dogs & Englishmen is facing an existential threat to its business, due to the City’s unlawful insistence that fire sprinklers must be installed throughout the entire Warren building. We relied on numerous permits and approvals from the City over the years and made significant investments in money and time to make our business a successful, “hot spot” in town, popular for residents and visitors alike.

The City’s recent actions (refusal to issue a certificate of occupancy; pursuing a notice of violation) are a complete reversal of its previous instructions and approvals. Worse, that reversal is not based on any evidence or applicable law, and is bad for business. Carmel businesses must be able to rely on City directions, actions, and approvals. It’s hard enough running a business in California, and City actions/patterns like this make it much worse, acting as a huge disincentive to smart/successful entrepreneurs to invest/risk significant time/energy and money in starting and/or improving businesses in Carmel, which hurts everyone: it lowers the tax base, reduces local employment opportunities, and denigrates what Carmel has to offer locals and visitors alike.

I’m asking for your support by attending and speaking at the public hearing today (Wednesday, August 5th) at 3:00pm at City Hall.

140 lbs of love! ❤️

This was such a magical ride with Prince Louie (🦁) & Todd (🐼) here in Carmel-by-the-Sea… we don’t get kitties riding with us very often, so it’s always a special experience. Louie was very curious and seemed to love the sound and smell of the ocean. Todd decided to take a cozy nap but did pop up to check things out a few times.
