They say there are two seasons in Wyoming: winter and construction season.

As construction projects ramp up across the state, truck drivers face unique challenges in work zones. Here are a few safety reminders to keep in mind:

🚧 Slow down and follow posted work zone speed limits. Reduced speeds help protect both workers and drivers.

🚧 Increase your following distance. Traffic can slow or stop unexpectedly in construction zones, and heavy trucks need more time and space to react.

🚧 Watch for narrow lanes and shifting traffic patterns. Temporary lane changes can leave less room for error, especially for larger vehicles.

🚧 Be aware of construction equipment entering and exiting the roadway. Expect the unexpected and stay alert.

🚧 Secure your load and conduct thorough pre-trip inspections. Construction zones can create rough road conditions that put additional stress on equipment and cargo.

🚧 Plan your route ahead of time. Road work, lane closures and delays can impact travel times and delivery schedules.

Every work zone is a shared responsibility. By staying alert, slowing down and giving yourself extra space, you can help keep yourself, construction crews and everyone else on the road safe this construction season.

When most people think about trucking, they think about freight moving from Point A to Point B. What often goes unnoticed is just how much of our daily lives depend on it.

From grocery stores and hospitals to construction projects, ranches and small towns, trucking plays a critical role in keeping Wyoming supplied, connected and moving forward.

The next time you see a truck on the road, remember that it is carrying more than freight. It is helping deliver the products, resources and services that communities across Wyoming rely on every day.

Have you heard? Derek D. Barrs, Administrator of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, will join us as the keynote speaker for the 87th Annual WTA Convention, sponsored by PrePass.

FMCSA is the national agency responsible for overseeing commercial trucking safety and compliance across the country. From regulations and enforcement to workforce development and industry priorities, their decisions directly impact how motor carriers and drivers operate every day.

For Wyoming, this is significant. As home to one of the nation’s most critical freight corridors, with Interstate 80 serving as a backbone of coast-to-coast commerce, our industry faces challenges unlike anywhere else, including extreme weather, steep terrain, long rural distances and heavy interstate traffic.

Having the top FMCSA leader in the room is a rare opportunity to ensure Wyoming’s voice is part of the national conversation.
