Last night we held our Annual Employee Appreciation Party. We celebrated the milestone anniversaries of employees Said & Gustavo, we recognized Leo V., Leo P., Emilio, Jose G. and Sammy who received the most positive customer comments during the past year, and we announced our Employee of the Year, Jesse, an award voted on by his co-workers … plus we honored our longest tenured (45 years) employee, Lynn, who we lost to cancer last year. Lynn’s wife, daughter, son-in-law, and sister (also a former long-term employee) were there as we presented a plaque in his memory that will be displayed next to the dispatch office window where Lynn stood for so many, many years. We also introduced a new award the “Lynn Wright Adjust your Sails Award”, to be presented annually to a team member who embodies the same grit, heart, and positive attitude that Lynn did. One of Lynn’s mantras, which our company president, Vince, calls “Lynn-isms” was “You can’t control the wind, but you can adjust your sails!” Lynn was not only an employee, but Vince’s best friend; they went to school together and were business partners for more than fifty years in their seasonal Christmas Tree Lot. Marc was the first recipient of this new award, someone who worked next to Lynn for years, and who has survived his own battles along the way. Last night’s event was Mardi Gras themed and included our second annual Bocce Ball tournament … you could say the night was filled with plenty of cheers and tears … the Bocce Tourney winners received trophies & medals ... and everyone present walked away with a Gift Card!
