Harmonie State Park - New Harmony, IN

We are back at it doing something we, as a family, love to do together! We didn’t get to enjoy much camping time last season because Danny was in recovery for at least 6 months after his injury last May. This was our first time at Harmonie, and it’s a great park. We did some self-guided hiking, a nature edibles hike, a bat hike, lots of bike rides, Gaga ball, playgrounds, and finished up with a Mother’s Day brunch at the New Harmony Inn 😋 There is a pool with a slide in the park, but it hasnt yet opened for the season. There were also a lot of people there who don’t want you treading on them 🤪

We enjoyed a short trip to Kentucky last weekend to explore Mammoth Cave, trick or treat with Yogi Bear, and go on a dinosaur hunt. We even got to spend some time with the Nicholsons! It was such a crisp and beautiful fall weekend perfectly spent in the great outdoors 🍂👻🤎

Danny and I enjoyed our 5th wedding anniversary in nature and with kids 😬
In all honesty, it was exactly how we wanted to celebrate - doing something we all love together 🥰

The priss in me loved the KOA experience because of all the amenities and conveniences, but nothing compares to a state park among true wilderness. We will definitely consider staying at a KOA again while on an extended trip, for sure!

Bernheim is such a nice park. Right now, they have a traveling giant exhibit. It was so fun searching for giants hiding in the woods and enjoying the beautiful weather!

Spring Mill State Park:
I think we found another favorite camping spot. Such a nice campground with lots of activities for kids/families! Abe roughed out a 2.5 mile hike in the woods, he has mastered the Big Wheel, and he got a lesson on starting fires by daddy. Lucy had a nice nap in her carrier during the aforementioned 2.5 mile hike 😂 and she quite enjoys just chillin’ around the camper with a cold drink like mommy.

I also snapped a few pictures of the nearly finished camper remodel. It just needs new upholstery on the dinette cushions and window boxes, floor trim, stain on the barn door, and a few more decorative pieces 😍

We laid flooring in the ole’ Jay Feather 2 weeks ago. It’s a luxury vinyl plank. It’s waterproof and it’s bendy - perfect for a camper! Previously, it had carpet 😝

Replacing the flooring ended up being a bigger adventure than we anticipated as we quickly discovered that over half the subfloor was rotten from water damage. Danny Luegers was a trooper and worked hard for 3 days straight removing the old subfloor, adding a new lining + plywood, and finally laying the vinyl planks.

Currently, we are prepping for paint 🙌🏼 ..more progress photos to come!

Camping trip #2 is in the books (last weekend)!

We ventured to a new place called O’Bannon Woods in Corydon, IN. Its a state park with camping, a wide variety of trails, a pool, and cave nearby (and lots of ticks 😳). Unfortunately, the pool and cave were both closed, but we were determined to give Abe his first cave experience. We drove a short distance to Merengo Cave, and it did not disappoint! Abe loved it!

Both Abe and Lucy seem to really enjoy camping so far. We’re realizing that our family gets more quality time together while away from home (home has so many distractions).

Keep following along for more camping adventures 😀 We will hopefully start posting RV renovation pictures soon!
