A couple of days late, but our temporary Air Traffic Control Tower is back in operation at Cedar City Regional Airport! ✈️

Operating daily through July 6 from 8:00 AM–9:00 PM, the tower was activated by the BLM Air Resource Center to support increased aviation activity due to wildfires. Pilots should use 125.25 for Tower and 132.725 for Clearance.

A busy day at the Cedar City Tanker Base!

Today, 7 large air tankers are operating from the airport, supporting wildfire suppression efforts across the region. These aircraft play a critical role in protecting lives, property, and natural resources by delivering fire retardant where it’s needed most.

We appreciate the pilots, ground crews, dispatchers, and firefighters working tirelessly to keep our communities safe. If you’re at the airport, you may have noticed increased aircraft activity throughout the day as these crews continue their important mission.

Incredible work at the Cedar City Air Tanker Base! Yesterday, June 16, crews set a new single-day record, delivering 156,005 gallons of fire retardant in 70 loads while supporting multiple wildfires across the region.

The airport got a little busy over the last day with the Rock Canyon Fire in Coconino County, Arizona. Large Air Tankers (LATs), Single Engine Air Tankers (SEATs), and Air Attack are actively engaged in wildfire suppression efforts out of CDC.

Examples of duties include:

Statement Regarding Aviation Incident at Cedar City Regional Airport

Cedar City, UT — On the morning of May 23, 2026, shortly before 7:30 a.m., a Southern Utah University (SUU) Aviation training helicopter was involved in an incident at Cedar City Regional Airport (KCDC). The helicopter sustained substantial damage, however, no other property was damaged.

Two occupants were aboard at the time of the incident. Both the instructor and student sustained injuries and were transported to the Cedar City Hospital for medical treatment. Their injuries are considered non-life-threatening. The affected taxiway was cleared and reopened to normal operations at approximately 10:00 a.m.

Cedar City Regional Airport and Southern Utah University are cooperating fully with the Cedar City Police Department, Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) in the ongoing investigation. The airport remains fully operational. Further media inquiries regarding the investigation should be directed to the NTSB or FAA.
