This page is run by The Friends of the Cedar Key Airport, an unincorporated association with a love and appreciation for the George T. Founded in March 2011 in response to discussions about closing the airfield, its members advocated not only for it to remain open to the public, but increase operational and safety features. The association actively acts as a liaison between aviators, locals, the C

ity of Cedar Key, and Levy County. All are welcome to join The Friends of the Cedar Key Airport whether you are a pilot or not, aircraft owner, airport area home owner, local business owner, or simply an aviation enthusiast. There is no cost to join and you will be kept up to date via email on airport safety information and events. Meetings are held as-needed to discuss what the airport can do for the community and what the community can do for the airport. We are a group who are interested in:
- Keeping the Cedar Key Airport open,
- Helping its safety & economic benefits to Cedar Key and Levy County, and

Fly on in and visit the island! 🛩 The runway is back open and has been completely resurfaced! Please note that it will have "non-standard markings" temporarily until they get out to paint it properly once the pavement is cured in about a month; at which time it will close again for a short time to dry. The George T. Lewis Cedar Key Airport (KCDK) will be closed (NOTAM) starting tomorrow August 17th until October 17th 2020. This is for rehabilitative maintenance for the airfield. We'll see you again in autumn! 🌴

EDIT: Here's a note I didn’t feel the need to add in the original post but I want to address after some comments. NOTAMs are important legal notices to pilots about an airport/area. They are issued by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for any number of reasons. We as the Friends of the Cedar Key Airport are a group of aviators that love and advocate for the Cedar Key Airport. We are not a legal organization or government affiliated.

Shout out to the Southeast Regional Chapter of the International Cessna 180/185 club! They flew into KCDK last month with around 30 aircraft and we loved hosting them for the weekend. Come bring your own winged-club to explore the island; enjoy a fun airfield, amazing seafood, unique art galleries, and true Gulf-coast style!

Ready for some island time this weekend? If you are a non-aviator visiting the Cedar Key Airport we would just like to make a friendly reminder not to enter the airport environment (fenced area including: ramp, runway, and especially the grass/marsh at both ends of the runway). It is extremely dangerous for both air and ground traffic, even if it appears there is no one else around. Enjoy the space behind the cul-de-sac to the side of the runway for amazing sunset views or use the wood benches outside the fence for some plane spotting! 🌴🛩️

A full ramp (and then some) this weekend at KCDK. Its a beautiful time of year to be in the air and to visit the island!
