We had an amazing time celebrating Colorado 150 aboard the Centennial State Limited!

Thank you to everyone who joined us in Antonito for a special weekend of historic steam, welcome ceremonies, quality time with friends and family, and of course the unforgettable sights and sounds of America's #1 Best Scenic Train Ride.

From Engine No. 168’s historic doubleheader with Engine No. 463 to the stories shared onboard and at the depot, the event was a meaningful celebration of Colorado’s 150th anniversary of statehood and the railroad heritage of the San Luis Valley.

We are grateful to our guests, speakers, Commissioners, history ambassadors, Friends volunteers, railroad crews, staff, partners, and everyone who helped make this weekend memorable.

Most of all, thank you to our passengers for being part of the story. Stay tuned — more photos and stories from the event coming soon.

There were lots of smiles in the Antonito Yard last week! 🚂❤️

We loved welcoming the children and staff from Imagine Taos Children's Museum and Inspire Taos for a behind-the-scenes look at the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad.

From watching Engine No. 488 take on water and seeing Engine No. 463 come to life, to touring a historic railcar and climbing into the cab of No. 488 with Road Foreman of Engineers Max Casias, it was a steam-powered day of fun.

A special thank you to the Friends of the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad, Inc. docent Pat Maufrais for sharing the stories that make this railroad so special—and to everyone from Imagine Taos Children's Museum and INSPIRE for spending the day with us. We loved sharing our history with the next generation of railroad fans! ❤️🚂

🚂📖History comes alive when you're riding with the people who know it best!

Our Centennial State Limited on 7/31 and 8/1 is a ride behind the historic #168 with renowned historians helping preserve and share Colorado's story. Joining us onboard:

🎓 Friday & Saturday: Dr. Rich Loosbrock, Professor of History at Adams State University, will share fascinating stories about the San Luis Valley, the Denver & Rio Grande Railroad, and the vital role narrow-gauge railroads played in shaping Colorado's first 150 years.

🏜️ Saturday: San Luis Valley historian Loretta Mitson will bring the region's rich cultural heritage to life, exploring its archaeology, early Hispano settlement, the Rio Grande corridor, and the people whose stories stretch far beyond statehood.

Our Colorado 150 Welcome Ceremonies will also feature special guests from across the region, including representatives from History Colorado, state and local leaders, the Friends of the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad, and C&TSRR leadership as we celebrate Colorado's past—and the railroad that helped shape it.

And -- don't forget the Friends of the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad, Inc. free open house in Antonito yards on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Our amazing crew is bringing 168 to life for Colorado 150. 🚂

We’re one week out from the Centennial State Limited, a special two-day CO150 celebration featuring legendary Engine No. 168, built in 1883. After sitting on static display in Colorado Springs for 70 years, this beloved Denver & Rio Grande locomotive is back under steam and back in her native habitat.

Join us July 31–August 1 for a rare opportunity to ride behind 168, with historic Denver & Rio Grande 19th-century equipment, onboard history, honored guests, and a weekend celebrating Colorado’s railroad heritage.

Friday's run is your best bet if you want a shorter ride, with time before and after to visit the Friends of the Cumbres & Toltec Open House and Car Restoration Facility. Saturday is our Statehood run, featuring a doubleheader with Engine Nos. 168 & 463, and lunch at Osier.
