Congrats📣 to these new MARINES and welcome to the FAMILY Private Kevin Rodas and Private Donald Fialko who graduated from Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, California on December 22nd, 2021.

These young men chose to be a part of the most ELITE branch of military service, and THEY accomplished the hardest boot camp of ALL services.

It takes heart, physical strength💪, and mental strength to overcome boot camp. They embodied all of that.

Champaign Marines are very proud of them and look forward to seeing all that they accomplish. Their next challenge will be knocking out Marine Corps Combat Training and then Military Occupation School Training.

Since 1947 the U.S. Marine Corps has delivered for those less fortunate through Marine Toys for Tots Foundation 🇺🇲

in 1965, during Operation Harvest Moon in Vietnam, Lt. Harvey C. Barnum Jr. and his company were pinned down by a hail of enemy fire and separated from the remainder of their battalion by more than 500 meters of open and fire-swept ground. With disregard for his own safety, Lt. Barnum began exposing himself to fire to seek targets for his artillery.

Lt. Barnum found the rifle company commander mortally wounded and the radio operator killed in action. He proceeded to give aid to his dying commander and assumed command of the rifle company after removing the radio from the operator.

He moved into the midst of heavy fire, rallying and encouraging his Marines, and preparing for an attack on the enemy positions. With two armed helicopters, he moved fearlessly through enemy fire to control the air attacks against the enemy. His successful counterattack claimed key enemy positions, and the helicopters were able to land to remove the dead and wounded.

His swift decisions and gallant initiative earned him the Medal of Honor.

At the time of his actions, Lt. Barnum was serving as a Forward Observer for Artillery attached to . He returned to Vietnam in 1968, where he served as the Commanding Officer of Battery E, 2nd Battalion, 12th Marines, 3rd Marine Division.

Lt. Barnum retired from the Marine Corps at the rank of Colonel in 1989 after 27 years of service. He served as Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Navy for Reserve Affairs from 2001 to 2009 and Acting Assistant Secretary of the Navy (Manpower and Reserve Affairs) from January to April 2009.

He is currently 81 years old.

The keel for the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer named in his honor was laid April 6, 2021.

These Highschool graduates from CCA Calvary Christian Academy and Paxton-buckley-loda High School decided to join the most ELITE💪military branch of ALL services. They will leave with a career, college👨‍🎓📚 💯% paid💵 for, and the ability to see the world 🌍.

Their next challenge will be EARNING the title of Marine🦅🌍⚓. We look forward to seeing you holding that Eagle, Globe and Anchor high above your head as you concure the Reaper.
