All my Pack and Ship facilities are ISPM-15 certified facilities where we make export crates.

This High Value coffee table was picked up and packed for shipment overseas.

But we were asked to ship it to Rhode Island instead. The customer wanted to visually view the table before it left the country.

Inspection of high value art and furniture is a common occurrence in our niche (custom pack and ship)

The worry I always have in situations like this is we foam wrapped AND Pad wrapped this table completely.

In Rhode Island they ripped all of it off to inspect the table so what are they going to use to rewrap? Pad the table?

Also this nullifies the “Professional Packers Insurance” coverage to the overseas destination. It stops in RI because they unpacked it there.

Of course the pad wrap keeps the table from getting scuffs or rub marks on the surface of the table.

I have to always explain to the client once they unpack it our packing coverage stops even if they paid us to pack it to make all the way to Italy, which we did.

What does a White Glove delivery look like?

The term “White Glove” is a misnomer.

You really don’t want to wear white gloves with this freight. The dust on the bags from them traveling in the truck and from the warehouse cross dock would turn your white gloves black.

White glove is more of a term for the service level you provide.

This 8 piece sectional sofa required our team to deliver into this home
Remove the sections from each box/bag.
Attach four small legs to each unit
Attach connector bars from one section to another
Assemble together
Place in exact position/orientation customer desires in the room.

This job took a 2 man crew, 3 hours.

I prefer to call this service a “beyond threshold” delivery (meaning doing more than just delivering)

Sure customers, like interior designers, always refer to it as a “White Glove” service.

I always say, yes we do that, but can we do it without actually wearing “White Gloves”? lol

Small Household Goods or Personal Effects moves always consists of items that are different in shape, size, fragility and value.

Protecting these items from each other for pack and ship service requires different packing materials and great Tetris skills. lol

Here we had a dining room table with rugs, lamps, night stands and a few other pieces needing to ship together.

We built a lower crate to house the table and rugs and then built a platform on top of that to store the other items.

Shipping LTL for small HHG moves successfully (no damage to different fragile items) is something Gateway does from all of our warehouse locations.

If you have a small move of personal effects or household goods our pack and ship service could protect your items and be more cost effective than a professional blanket wrap moving service.

Here in our Arizona facility we have a client whose business is to supply wall art for businesses around the US.

Primarily hospitals, assisted living facilities and corporate offices.

It’s just the art you see on the walls when you go into large buildings with a lot of foot traffic.

This is one of our best clients.

Not because they have been a customer for many years
Or because they do a lot of volume
Or this crate pack and ship service is great revenue

It’s but because they refer so many people over to us.

I ask the owners “how do you know so many people?” lol

In my post yesterday about our Seattle facility I talked about who needs sales people when your service generates sales?

Well here in AZ I say who needs sales people when you got them in your existing customer base? lol

This client has literally referred dozens of other clients to Gateway this past year.

So if your walking through a large office with lots of mass produced wall art, it might have gotten there in one of our crates…

from one of our best clients!

You got to love customers who appreciate the work you do.

This customer left us a google review AND called me last week to tell me how much he appreciated the great care we put into packing his classic guitar amp.

He told me this piece was “Rare” only 4 ever made and valuable. He even said he was restless, 😬 nervous, lost sleep while this was in transit. lol

But once he received it and unpacked it, then plugged it in to find out it even works! He was so ecstatic. He had to let me know and wanted to tell the world!

In this industry the phone rings most often because there is a problem and it needs to be fixed.

It is the rare calls like this that make our days in the logistics world a little better.

We are a Crate and Freight facility.
We don’t do parcel!!!!

When people find out we are a fulfillment warehouse they automatically think we ship parcels.

NO. we only fulfill (keep another companies inventory) in our facility if the shipping order is going to be freight sized and needs crating or specialty packaging.

But every now and then I make an exception for our special clients.

One of our AV Fullfilment clients had a big freight shipment that needed us to ship out but then one of their pieces (a processor) needed to arrive faster than the freight we were shipping.

No problem, bag, foam protect, pack, custom box and ship next day on our parcel account. There the next day.

So I guess when I say “we don’t do parcel” what I’m really saying is maybe, sometimes but we don’t want it to be our business.

Our special clients get special treatment sometimes…

Like shipping parcel in a regular little cardboard box! lol 😂 😆 😝

Xray Machines and all of their parts and peripherals when broken down to pack can be very heavy. This machine and its parts in this crate are over 2,000 lbs. Doesn't look like much but its heavy.

We get requests to pack and ship a large variety medical exam equipment, new and used. This was a used system and sold to someone overseas as this medical center had purchased and setup a new one.

The custom built crate was made to house all of the items. The most important pieces were boxed with foam protection and placed on top to ensure the items arrive safely for reassembly.

All Gateway Crate and Freight warehouses are IPPC (ISPM-15 WPM) certified facilities. And we specialize in crating/packing and shipping International High Value, Heavy Freight.

We handle a full suite of First Mile, Pickup, Crate and Pack services for our Shipping Clients, Freight Brokers and Freight Forwarders.

Gateway Optimum Transportation has a fleet of cargo vans and box trucks. This 2016 Promaster cargo van has been driven in or through all 48 States in service to our company.

Here are pictures of it in the wild.

Now with over 350k miles I have determined to give it a semi retirement. This van will now only be used for local P&D and we won’t use it for any OTR loads anymore.

What better place to retire than Arizona? lol

Our newer box trucks and vans are now out on the roads and having pictures taken of them in the wild. How many of them will be able to say…I’ve been in all 48 continental US States?

Only time will tell.
