Winch Service:. 5 winches on a good ol’ Catalina 27 needed some attention. Over time, dust and pollen and weather turns grease into a chunky wax. The degradation happens over time, but once they’re serviced, only then- do you know how much they needed it. Tacks are faster due to less drag. Grinding effort is more focused on adjusting the line rather than overcoming mechanical drag. How? Full disassembly, springs checked. Gears and bearings cleaned with a brush. L**e where l**e is needed. Oiled where oil is needed. These things sing now.

Diesel tank clean out. Pulled a sample into the bucket. That wasn’t good. Rather than polish, we opted to empty and clean the tank. 12 gallons of fresh treated diesel added. Tank re-sealed. Fuel quality is the #1 problem I see on small marine diesels. It’s is nice to eliminate old fuel, water, growth and sediment. Old fuel will be recycled.

Getting close to wrapping up this Hunter 33 that grounded into some rocks pretty hard. New rudder. Recreated keel fairing. Repaired keel/hull joint. New bearing epoxied in (origins shaft was composite). New is stainless.

As other work opportunities grow - I have got to scale back marine service commitments.

I have 50 boats in cue for various repairs and maintenance.
