“It just needs a quick buff”… more like:

➡️ 600p Sand
➡️ 800p Sand
➡️ 1000p Sand
➡️ 1000p Wet Sand
➡️ Level R
➡️ Elevate
➡️ Finish R
➡️ Hyper Hold Pro Sealant

You get what you pay for.

This is what happens when gelcoat damage is patched and not repaired properly. The DIY repair “popped” out after hitting the trailer on haul-out.

These chips are very common and we get these done while the crew is already detailing the boat.

To fix the core of the problem, the gelcoat is ground out and sanded. We inspect the fiberglass to ensure there is no further damage. If so, we will cut and lay new glass with enough layers to fill the damaged area, then custom color match gelcoat to cover the new glass.

This process is time intensive and tedious, but will keep water intrusion from rotting the substrate between the gelcoat and fiberglass, ultimately creating more damage and costs down the line.

Accidents happen… and when they do, call us!

Big thanks to .color.inc for the gelcoat. The hull showed slight fading from years of sun, so we tinted the factory gelcoat a bit lighter to match flawlessly.

Holy crack! For this structural repair, we cut out all damaged fiberglass, added coosa board as a core, glassed that in, then matched the gel.

Thanks

With 2000HP custom turbo-charged motors, there is approximately 12,000 pounds of thrust pushing between two sterndrives. Flexing occurs, typically during a sharp acceleration load.

We tested the area with a moisture meter and the dependable “screwdriver handle” test. Luckily, there was little to no moisture, indicating no rotted core or compromised fiberglass.

Feel free to reach out if you have any questions about stress, cracks, or gelcoat/fiberglass repairs.
