Marine Electronics Installer / Technician - Job Requirements
To install, maintain and troubleshoot marine electronics equipment that includes but is not limited to: -
- GPS Systems
- Multi-Function Displays
- Radio Transmitting and Receiving devices and AIS equipment
- Sonar Devices
- Radars
- Autopilots
- Thermal and Visual Cameras
- Satellite TV and Communications Systems
- TV and Entertainment Systems
- Antennas, Transducers Cables and Wires.
- Network Systems
A sound knowledge of basic electrical and electronic systems and trouble-shooting is required, including the ability to use basic electronics test equipment to measure voltage, resistance and current, to make and terminate cable connections/connectors mechanically and by soldering. The installation of displays will also require the use of power tools for drilling and cutting wood, fiberglass and occasionally metal.
A technical qualification in marine electronics is preferred (NMEA, FCC GROL with Radar Endorsement or CMET), but not a requirement of this position. However, within 3 months of employment the job holder should take and pass the National Marine Electronics Association – Marine Electronics Installer and NMEA2000 Installer Examinations.
The work entails working on boats of all sizes and types and in all weather where practical. The person must be physically fit, lift up to 50lbs, be able to climb, bend, stretch, work in extremes of temperature and not be afraid of heights, tight spaces or water or have any impediment that may prevent the work undertaken to be done to effectively, safely and without risk.

A clean driving license is required.
