300+ students. 120+ schools. 65+ ZIP codes. One incredible summer ahead here at the CTA!

Last week, CTA Acting President Nora Leerhsen kicked off the Chicago Youth Works summer orientation, encouraging our newest interns to ask questions, make connections, and make the most of the experience.

This summer, more than 300 young people are joining CTA through the Chicago Youth Works program โ€” part of a citywide effort projected to put 29,000 young people to work this summer. CTA has proudly partnered with OSC/CYW since 2013!

Our interns will dive into a host of robust learning and development opportunities, including:

Field trips to tour college campuses
A community service project with the Greater Chicago Food Depository
City scavenger hunts and special event days, including CTA Board Day
Professional development in leadership, emotional intelligence, and networking
Dual-enrollment courses at Harold Washington College, plus opportunities in our Pre-Engineering Bridge and Digital Scholars STEM programs
Returning interns will also take on Special Projects, working alongside 55 mentors across 13 departments throughout the CTA.

Welcome aboard, CTA interns โ€” we can't wait to see what you accomplish this summer!

Thanks to the hard work of our crews, riders will be able to resume subway service!
Over the past three weekends, our crews made improvements to 2,400+ feet of Red Line track between the State Street subway portal and Armitage station.
At the conclusion of our work, customers will have a smoother and faster ride both entering and leaving the State Street subway.

At CTA, we never stop, and this past weekend was no exception. We delivered hundreds of thousands of rides while also conducting necessary, impactful work on the tracks in one of our most critical corridors. All of this is done with our riders in mindโ€”and this weekend, we monitored service closely and made key adjustments in real time to address issues riders were experiencing. To our riders: as always, we are grateful for your trust and patience as we are constantly assessing our operations and adjusting to meet your needs.

Over the weekend, Acting President Nora Leerhsen visited the nighttime crews in the Red Line subway tunnel as they replaced older rail infrastructure. This work will mean faster trains and more reliable travel times on the Red Line in the coming weeks, and it is absolutely critical to the safety and upkeep of our system. Leerhsen also visited Blue Line stations to ensure the adjustments our teams had made were seeing results during our ridersโ€™ travel experiences. At Fullerton, she engaged with staff managing the Red Line service impacted by the weekend construction work.

Happy birthday to the 'L' ๐Ÿฅณ

On this day in 1892, the South Side Rapid Transit railroad company began regular service on Chicago's first elevated train.
The line initially ran from Congress to 39th Street (now Pershing), largely using alleys--earning it the nickname "The Alley 'L'."
(Fun fact- the Green Line still uses those tracks today)
