It's time for ! We are excited to kickoff this series featuring Stacey Rudser, President of AWAM! Stacey also chairs the national Scholarship Program, and is the founder of Central Florida AWAM Chapter #23. 🔧✈️❤️🌎

An awesome fact about Stacey is that she was the FIRST woman to graduate from the Aviation Institute of Maintenance, Orlando and earned her A&P in 2009. In 2018 she was selected as a recipient of the AMT Magazine Next Gen 40 under 40 award and her greatest honor is the opportunity to serve on the FAA Women in Aviation Advisory Board.

"I was inspired to pursue aviation maintenance through my high school AFJROTC program where my teacher was a retired C130 maintenance officer. I knew I didn't want to sit behind a desk and I liked working on cars so it seemed like a good fit.

I currently work for United Airlines on a number of workforce development programs including AMT apprentices and pathway agreements.

My favorite part of my job has to be seeing how workforce development programs change peoples lives for the better and give them the opportunity to achieve their passions.

The biggest challenge I had to overcome in my career was myself and the great big chip I carried on my shoulder for so long. I spent so many years trying to prove that I was good enough, even though my work spoke for itself. I was so worried about being accepted and respected that it really did me a disservice. I think sometime it just takes time to find your footing but the sooner you can let go of "am I good enough?" the sooner you will prosper.

Advice...find your niche. I am a jet engine LOVER. There's no engine work I won't tackle. So find what you enjoy and get really really good at it. This counts double for paperwork! If you know how to read and interpret maintenance manuals (especially the IPC and SRM) and you have precision recordkeeping, you will stand out immediately.

A fun fact about me is that I love football. Any given Saturday you will catch me at the field watching my son play then rushing home for SEC kickoff. Go Gators!"

Today we celebrate Sally Ride and the incredible legacy she left behind for women in aviation, space, science, and STEM. As the first American woman in space and the youngest American astronaut at the time of her first mission, she inspired generations to dream bigger and push boundaries that once seemed impossible.

Her impact reached far beyond space travel through her work encouraging girls and young women to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and math. Today, we proudly honor her legacy and the doors she helped open for future generations.
