On April 15, 2011, while responding to a rural fire in southern Eastland County, Eastland Volunteer Fireman Gregory Simmons lost his life. Simmons, age 50, had been a member of the Eastland Fire Department for the past 11 years, and was a 10 year member of the Sachse Department before moving to Eastland. Greg and his wife Carrie, managed an Eastland business and have two daughters, Kateland and Ka

rley. To honor Gregory Simmons and other heroes like him who have lost their lives while protecting others, Wilks Brothers, LLC of Cisco Texas is privately funding a new public airport facility in his name. The Gregory Simmons Memorial Airport will serve as a reminder to Greg's family and the Texas Eastland County community, that heroes like Gregory Simmons are not forgotten. Construction has now begun (2013). The airport is under construction just west of Cisco on the South side of Interstate 20 at County Road 129. Phase 1 of the project includes a 5,280 ft. concrete runway and a public FBO to be finished by late 2014. Beginning now (December 2013), this page will be updated monthly with photographs of the construction progress. Thanks for visiting!
