We have closed our doors. After trying to help people with jobs, and helping the community with much needed transportation, we got stabbed in the back by the very people we tried to help. So, we have decided to let people fend for themselves again.
Last week I received a phone call from Steven, one of the people that thought he could step into my shoes. He took a job from someone to transport some people to North Carolina. Since Steven's car was not reliable, he broke down then called me to clean up his mess at half price. I just laughed at him, and told him that's what happens when you get a lackey to do a professional's job. My prices were 1/3 of the other cab companies because it wasn't about the money. But I still had business expenses such as commercial insurance, business cards, advertising, fuel, maintenance, etc., so no, I wasn't just giving the fares for free.
I believe in free enterprise, so the lackeys can have it, and I'm back to working a regular job, with a steady paycheck, and I'm not destroying my vehicles for ungrateful people. I went in debt $42,000 for a nice vehicle to help people out, just to get cussed out because I wouldn't let someone eat food or drink alcohol in my car two days after I bought it. People just have no consideration for other people's belongings in this town.
The problem is that we had people that were jealous of what we had. All people saw were that we were constantly upgrading our cars, so they thought we must have been making a lot of money, and they wanted the money. What they didn't understand is that we have credit, and we used that credit to help others. So, a few people came to work for me to get their hands on my company documents and price sheets and thought they'd undercut me. I told them all, there's a big difference between giving friends rides and running a taxi, but nobody listened.
All I will say is good luck people. At least I have time to handle my business now instead of running around helping everyone else while putting my life on hold.
