Sometimes, the light at the end of the tunnel… is a TRAIN!

Deep in the wild heart of Verde Canyon, the train rolls through a 734-foot tunnel blasted straight through solid rock. It took 22,000 pounds of dynamite to carve this tunnel through the mountainside in 1911—and more than a century later, we’re still rolling through it.

Feel the scenery vanish as the train goes into the darkness, hear the rumble of the rails echo off the rock walls, then watch daylight suddenly return as you emerge into another spectacular stretch of red rock wilderness.

It’s history. It’s scenery. It’s a little bit of Wild West thrill—all experienced from the rails.

How The West Was Won. 🌵Crossing the covered steel bridge into Perkinsville aboard Verde Canyon Railroad feels like a journey straight into the old Wild West. As the wheels roll across the bridge, and the scenery opens up to an old ranch, time seems to rewind.

Out here, history isn’t just remembered—it’s still standing. You’ll spot the old cowboy bunkhouse where ranch hands once rested under starlit skies, the weathered base of a water tower once used by steam engines and the original depot.

In the 1960s, a few scenes from the classic Western film “How the West Was Won” were shot here.

This isn't just a movie set though, this is real Arizona history living quietly along the rails—waiting for you to experience it. 🤠

A big thank you to for climbing aboard Verde Canyon Railroad and experiencing the journey from our historic Caboose! 🚂✨ We loved having you along for the ride.

“Come with us on a scenic ride aboard the Luxury Caboose 🚂✨ — because apparently, there’s a way to enjoy Arizona when it’s wayyyy too hot to stand still. 😂☀️

We arrived in the morning, browsed the gift shop, grabbed lunch, and then boarded the caboose for four unforgettable hours of Arizona views, history, and good vibes.

Our hosts, Tracy & Janice, were absolutely fabulous! Personable, hilarious, and full of fascinating stories about the train cars, locomotives, and the history behind the journey. They truly made the experience even better.

And because we were in the Luxury Caboose… 🥂 we enjoyed champagne, snacks, and charcuterie while taking in the scenery and seeing Sedona from a whole new angle. 😍🏜️

If you’re looking for something fun to do in Arizona when the heat is giving ‘absolutely not’… I think I found it. 😂

Our track crews are working hard for their BUCKS this morning! 💰🦌

Before the train rolls through the Verde Canyon, some of our wildest crew members like to make their rounds along the rails. These deer were spotted checking the track, to make sure everything is doe-ing just fine. 😉

We’re not sure who hired them, but one thing’s for sure — they’re deerly committed to the job.

Just another day where the wildlife runs wild along Verde Canyon Railroad.
