A LITTLE COLOR, A LOT OF GRATITUDE, AND SOME BIG PLANS!

If you know me, you know I can’t leave well enough alone when it comes to dreaming up new ways to make my little motel something magical.

Well, I’m thrilled to announce that 44° North Motel has been awarded a Beautification Grant from the 1000 Islands International Tourism Council! 🎉

First, I want to extend a HUGE, heartfelt THANK YOU to Visit 1000 Islands & the 1000 Islands International Tourism Council for supporting small businesses, encouraging creativity to bring a bit more character + charm, investing in the beauty of our 1000 Islands community!

I’m a firm believer that it’s the little details, the unexpected touches, and the creative spirit that makes this place so unique.

And thanks to this grant, I get to add a little more of that magic!

ENTER: THE BARN QUILT PROJECT!

I’ve chosen to incorporate a barn quilt into the motel’s exterior because I love the idea of blending art, history, tradition, and a little unexpected beauty.

Barn quilts have a wonderful way of celebrating the agricultural roots, craftsmanship, and rural character of communities like ours. They’re colorful pieces of folk art that tell a story, brighten a landscape, and turn an ordinary building into something worth stopping to admire.

And that’s exactly what’s gonna happen!

The Thousand Islands is known for its breathtaking waterways, but there’s so much beauty in the communities, countryside, and creative people who call this region home. I wanted to create something that pays tribute to that character while adding a fresh, colorful touch of personality to the motel.

I’m especially excited to be collaborating with the incredibly talented local artist Kristy Hoover, who is helping me bring this vision to life!

I’ve included a sneak peek of our barn quilt design. I can’t wait to see it go from an idea, to a beautiful piece of public-facing artwork! 🎨

One of the things I love most about owning this motel is getting to put my own creative spin on things. I don’t want to simply offer visitors a place to lay their heads. I want to create an experience, celebrate the character of our community, and give people another reason to fall in love with this little corner of the world.

Grants like this are so much more than financial assistance. They’re an investment in local dreams, local artists, and the businesses that help give our community its personality.

I’m incredibly grateful to have been selected and even more excited to get started!

Here’s to preserving a little tradition, encouraging a little creativity, and making our little slice of the Thousand Islands even more colorful!

🎃 PUNKIN CHUNKIN WEEKEND IS COMING! 🎃

If you’ve never watched grown adults build contraptions to absolutely YEET pumpkins through the air, you’re missing one of Clayton’s finest fall traditions. 😂🎃💥

Clayton’s annual Punkin Chunkin is October 17th, and we’re making a weekend out of it at 44° North Motel!

Come up for the flying pumpkins, spend the day eating, drinking and wandering around Clayton, then come back and hang out in our courtyard under the lights. 🍂🔥

No long drive home. Just a cozy little locally owned motel right here in the heart of Clayton.

Alright folks, this isn’t the typical food or b**r post we normally get to offer our dedicated followers, but please read and share.

❤️ PLEASE SHARE & HELP OUR EMPLOYEE REBUILD HER LIFE ❤️

As Mickie’s employer, it’s incredibly difficult to see one of our own going through something so devastating.

One of our employees recently lost her home and everything she owned in a house fire while she was at work.

Thankfully, her two beloved animals survived, but she has been left without a home and is now facing the overwhelming task of starting over — from clothing and toiletries to food, pet supplies, household necessities, and all of the everyday things we often take for granted.

Our employee is hardworking, kind, and a valued part of our team. Right now, we want to come together as a community and help take some of the weight off her shoulders while she works to rebuild her life.

Here are some of the things she needs most right now:

🏠 Immediate housing - she is lucky enough to have friends who are helping, but she needs a place to call home. *single, dog friendly

Welp. Tore off the deck off of the front of the motel house, the wood was way too far gone to try to save, the layout did not make much sense as there was not much space for anything, & it was just a nice habitat for the spiders apparently, no matter how much I sprayed.
THANKFULLY, THERE WAS CONCRETE STEPS UNDERNEATH ALL OF THAT, which is much easier to maintain, and I will be staining it to look like marble.
I have guests checking in for the weekend, I can’t have it looking the way it does so if you see me pressure washing in the rain, make sure to laugh at me please. There’s no dry time between now & when my guests check-in, I would much rather this weather versus a heat stroke, & I am most likely just going to get soaked anyways regardless.
ALSO:
I will have the PVC railing system by the side of the road for anyone that wants it!
