This month’s Member of the Month is member Ian Ehrlich! Ian started sailing in 2022, and has since has successfully graduated from race team parent and casual sailor to racer; competing in several of our weeknight race series- placing third in our Spring Sunset Series alongside his son, Optimist green fleeter Re*****on, as well as in our Fall Sunset Series and completing his first full-length regatta at this year’s Hobie Wave Championships.
From: Ian has moved around a lot; but his current home is in Largo, FL
“One of the things I like about CCSC is that it definitely feels like a home base,” he says.

Sailing since: 2022– Ian’s older son [420 sailor] Rider started as a Green Fleet racer after summer camp, and shortly after started sailing. “About a month of dropping him off every weekend, I got tired of going back so had him teach me how to sail,”
“I would encourage any parent who hasn’t sailed to let their kid teach them!”
Favorite Boat to Sail: Hobie Wave
Biggest Sailing Accomplishments: Being able to share a podium with his son, Re*****on after summer racing, as well as placing 4th in the Hobie Wave championships, his first real regatta and the heaviest wind he’s sailed in (without capsizing! ).
Most memorable sailing experience: Being on the podium with Re*****on after the summer series: “I didn’t expect to be on the podium because we were definitely goofing off and having fun most of the time,”
What is your favorite part about sailing at CCSC: “I really like the family atmosphere, and Clearwater Harbor is a beautiful place to spend your days.” “It’s tough to be in a bad mood on the water,” he adds.
What’s next for your sailing journey: “Keep having fun sailing as much as I can, and I’d like to eventually learn to sail different boats. I’d love to learn how to windsurf and I’d like to learn how to sail a Laser,” he shares.
