We visited the British Museum today. Lots of great things to se in here - especially all of the ancient Egypt collections! Word to the wise: when London is in the middle of a heat wave, avoid going to the museum! There is no air conditioning and the higher up you go inside the museum, the stuffier it gets.

Our final stop of the day was a splurge - we upgraded our tickets to a special VIP Access tour of Stonehenge at sunset. It was so worth the ticket price! We got to walk around inside the monument with a very small group of people, got in depth information from the tour guide, and the clouds broke up just a bit to get some amazing sunset colors. We also were told you cannot touch, deface, remove or lick the rocks.....and yes, all of those things apparently have been done. 😉

Our visit to Bath was short and hectic. First, we had ZERO signal to map from Castle Combe to Bath and felt like we took the longest route possible. Then we had to find parking....and not just any parking. We needed parking with an electric charger for the rental car. We found one only to discover that the rental car did not have charge cables! ARGH! Our entry to enter the Baths had come and gone so we made the decision to split up. One of us stayed with the car to search for a lot with charge cables while the rest of us ran to the Baths. Eventually we got it figured out and enjoyed our limited time in Bath and the Roman Baths. We'll definitely need to make another trip here to see this elegant and vibrant city!

Castle Combe was probably our favorite Cotswold stop today. The properties are hundreds of years old and are all listed as ancient monuments. No longer is there a castle, only the remains of some earthworks above the village of remain. There are also strict rules here to preserve it's beauty and character....meaning there have been no new buildings since the 1600s!

We visited the village Lacock, which is one of the most visited villages in the Costwolds. Here, movies and tv shows such as Harry Potter, Pride and Prejudice and Downton Abbey have been filmed here. It's a cute and tiny village and very easy to walk around in. Our oldest daughter was in love with all the Harry Potter filming spots!

Today we rented a car and started our morning in the cute little village of Avebury. What's there? Well, it's one of the best known prehistoric sites in Britain because it contains the largest megalithic stone circle in the world and half of the village is inside of it! The site itself was built and altered over many centuries from about 2850 BC until about 2200 BC. It was a great starting off point for our adventure and the girls especially loved the sheep all over the place!
