Every summer, these young crew members gain real-world maritime experience while removing floating debris, learning vessel operations and exploring career opportunities on the Great Lakes.

The Port of Cleveland is proud to join four regional partners in launching Cuyahoga TOD, a collaborative initiative focused on creating vibrant, connected neighborhoods along key transit corridors throughout Cuyahoga County.

Together with the Cuyahoga County Planning Commission, Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (GCRTA), City of Cleveland and Cuyahoga County, we’re working to better align transportation, planning and development resources to support walkable communities, attract investment and connect people with jobs, housing and opportunity.

The launch includes a new brand and CuyahogaTOD.org, a centralized resource for development opportunities, available sites, financing tools and planning guidance.

Summer flew by, but we’re still thinking about the fun we had at our first-ever SPLASH! Freshwater Exploration Day!

This June, we teamed up with our amazing partners to welcome guests to the Port of Cleveland for tours and a closer look at the working waterfront — something the public hadn’t experienced here in decades!

We loved opening our doors, celebrating our Great Lakes and connecting with the community in a whole new way.

A huge thank-you to our partners, volunteers and everyone who joined us to make this day so special. This is just the beginning, and we can’t wait to keep building connections throughout Northeast Ohio and beyond.

How does Cleveland’s history continue to shape its neighborhoods today?

That was one of the questions at the heart of a conversation last Friday at ThirdSpace Action Lab, where our Development Finance Project Manager Anastasia McIntosh joined German Marshall Fellows from Europe for a discussion hosted by Joe Black of the Mandel Foundation.

The group explored the lasting effects of redlining and historic policies, along with the role of community development and advocacy in creating opportunity today.

Anastasia brought a focus on multi-capital stewardship of people and place connecting historical narratives with meaningful action.

We’re proud to see members of our team contributing to conversations that help us better understand Cleveland and imagine what’s possible for its future.

Our leadership team took Cleveland to New Orleans! ⚓️

President & CEO Jeff Epstein, COO Dave Gutheil and Chief Engineer, Matt Steele recently attended the annual American Association of Port Authorities (AAPA) conference, themed “Ports Built to Lead.”

The conference brought together industry leaders, innovators and stakeholders from across the maritime, logistics and supply chain sectors to share new ideas, solutions and success stories.

Key conversations focused on sustainability, infrastructure development, digital transformation and resilient supply chains all of which are critical to the future of ports and the communities they serve.

We’re proud to bring those insights back home as we continue finding new ways to move Northeast Ohio forward. 🌊

🐟🌊 Sturgeon Fest!

The Port of Cleveland team was happy to join Cleveland Metroparks for its second annual Sturgeon Fest, celebrating efforts to restore lake sturgeon to the Cuyahoga River.

Guests had the chance to learn about the history of stocking juvenile lake sturgeon, take part in educational activities and help release sturgeon into the river!

Our Jared Magyar and Abby Henry got in on the action, too. 👏

And how about that backdrop? 👀 The American Courage made a pretty fitting appearance, carrying iron ore that was loaded right here at Port of Cleveland facilities.

It’s a great snapshot of what makes the Cuyahoga so special, a working river that also plays an important role in supporting a healthy ecosystem. 🌊

The Port of Cleveland team was proud to support West Creek Conservancy’s annual Up! A Creek fundraiser and its continued commitment to protecting Northeast Ohio’s natural spaces.

Through land acquisition and conservation easements, West Creek Conservancy works to protect and restore natural areas, with a strong focus on streams, rivers and watershed health.

As an organization committed to the health of our Great Lakes, waterways and region, the Port is proud to support this important work and the people working to preserve Northeast Ohio’s natural resources for generations to come. 🌿💧
