On Tuesday and Wednesday, Janet & Pam had the privilege of partnering with Amy Boyd and 18 of her Occupational Therapy students from the University of Texas Medical Branch Galveston at an extended CarFit Event. The event was held at Coastal Community Church. 18 individuals left safer in their vehicles, and we gained 18 new OT CarFit Technicians in Texas. The weather was typical of Texas, raining and cool on Tuesday, sunny and hot on Wednesday!! 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️😊

Rain or Shine, CarFit ensures safer drivers in Texas! Congratulations to these new technicians and thank you to Dr. Amy Boyd, UTMB, and Coastal Community Church for hosting. Rain or Shine, when you are out and about, whether in Galveston or across our great state, be sure to buckle up and make these new technicians proud.

Thursday, May 28th, 2026, Pam conducted a CarFit Presentation to Moody Methodist Church in Galveston, TX. All of the particiants are excited for the CarFit Event on Friday and have signed up to participate where they will experience first hand the 12 point checklist and be able to ask any questions they have about how they fit in their vehicles.

One common question we get during CarFit is where certain buttons are or how technology may work in the participants vehicle. Have you ever been stumped by your vehicle, borrowed a rental, or drove a friend's car and wondered where something was? You can use the webpage: https://www.mycardoeswhat.org/ to find out more!

If you are headed out to the CarFit in Galveston or some where fun this weekend, wear your seatbelt!

Rain or shine, CarFit and CarFit training happens across the state! Pam spent yesterday afternoon training 30 Occupational Therapy Students at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston.

Pam is seen going over the training curriculum in the classroom with the students and then doing an hands on demonstration with a follow up CarFit program later this week. Another step that OT and CarFit Technicians look at during a visit is if you know how to adjust your steering wheel. Pam reminds the students that we want the driver to always be the last person to touch any adjustment me make during the visit to ensure they always know how to make adjustments on their own.

Do you know if your steering wheel adjusts and in what ways it may adjust? Not all adjust the same, as some telescope in and out and some also go up and down. Some adjust with a lever, and some with a k**b. But, most importantly, when possibly we want that steering wheel to ideally be 10+ inches from your body incase of airbag deployment. The next time you take a ride, check to see how far back you are from your steering wheel and if you need to make any adjustments.

Be safe, drive smart.

This week Janet and Pam are in Galveston working with UTMB Occupational Therapy, School of Health Professions . Yesterday, Wednesday, May 27th, 2026, Janet conducted a CarFit Technician Occupational Therapy Training for 28 students at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. The training included an outside CarFit demonstration.

The traditional CarFit Technician training is 4 hours, these students completed an additional 2 hours for Occupational Therapist, focusing on their work with Mature Drivers, their body mechanics while driving, and how to help our senior population with any concerns they may in their vehicles.

Did you know that the CarFit curriculum and experience was actually designed about by the American Occupational Therapist Association and AARP?

One of the biggest concerns for Occupational Therapist is ensuring your safety belt (seat belt) fits correctly and that you can reach it to buckle and unbuckle it. If you have concerns, reach out to a medical provider about ways you may need help to ensure you are taking all safety precautions while driving. Buckle up, each time, every time.

Thank you Dr. Amy Boyd, Assistant Professor at UTMB for hosting us this week!
