It is with profound sadness that we share the news that our Chairman of the Board and owner, Greg Smith, passed away peacefully at his home following a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

Greg’s passing is a tremendous loss for his family and the entire Compco organization. His leadership and dedication helped shape our company, and his legacy will live on through the values, relationships, and commitment to our customers, vendors and communities that have defined Compco for generations.

This week the Compco family and the Mahoning Valley celebrated as a portion of State Route 7/Market Street in Boardman was dedicated as the Clarence “Sonny” Smith, Jr. Memorial Highway.

The designation covers the northbound and southbound lanes of Route 7 between Washington Boulevard and Western Reserve Road.

Sonny helped found Compco Metal Products with his father in 1952 and spent his life building businesses, investing in people, and generously supporting the community he called home.

His impact can still be seen throughout the Valley—from Youngstown State University and Boardman Schools to youth athletics, local government and countless community causes.

We are incredibly proud to see his name permanently become part of the community he loved and served so well.

We were honored to be part of the dedication and grateful to everyone who helped make this recognition possible.
