It really changes the whole business relationship when a company stops looking at its contractors or vendors as partners and starts looking at them strictly as a way to squeeze another dollar out of the operation.

A good partnership has to work financially for both sides. You can’t continually push costs, risk, extra trips, labor, fuel, claims, and schedule changes onto the company actually doing the work and then expect that company to survive on thinner and thinner margins.

There’s nothing wrong with a company making money—that’s business. But there’s a big difference between profitability and one-sided profitability.

Long-term partnerships work when both companies recognize each other’s value and understand that if one side can’t make money, eventually the relationship fails.
